Venture LX 3.4L V6

  • Automatic transmission

Worst vehicle I have ever owned. Had the gasket changed but also had to change the head since it was cracked. My mechanics said it was a very common problem for the 3.4L motor but usually the head was not cracked only had to change the gasket.

Stay away from this minivan. It's a headache... every mechanic has told me the same thing about this type of engine (3.4). I had the radiator changed, water pump changed, flushed cooling system numerous times and other things that fixed the problem temporarily but after a few weeks, sometimes days the temp gauge kept peaking, and fluctuating like crazy... after about 3 mechanics confirmed the same thing (intake manifold gasket leaking antifreeze) I just decided to junk it... repair costs were gonna be 1k+ and it wasn't worth it to put more money into that piece of junk... so, if you're a buyer, looking for reviews on this particular vehicle... please try to stay away from it, save yourself the headaches and the cash.

Just as anyone else who drives a Chevy..watch the anti-freeze for change in levels and if the heat stops working...overheats..or notice anti-freeze in the oil..stop driving it. Its time for the infamous intake manifold replacement. Make sure they replace it with the upgraded after-market gaskets..probably from fel-pro or you'll be doing it again. It's an entire kit with head gaskets and valve cover gaskets.

Pinhole leaks grow and grow..cause that plastic gasket its so brittle. I did most of the work myself on another one, but hated it enough to pay for it the next time. The engine compartment is tight and a pain to work in. While you are at it..if u have high mileage just pull out the fuel injectors and have them cleaned professionally (100bucks) and get all new rubber for it. (maybe 20 bucks) You won't regret it later. You're already in there!

STAY AWAY!! 3.4L engine will be grief!! The Venture, Montana, Grand Am, Alero, anything with a 3.4L engine will suck you dry. We had a 2000 Venture with a 3.4L engine. Bought it as a lease return with 58,000 KMs (36,000 miles). 3 years old, low mileage, figured great!! Day after we got it, ignition coil and ignition module problems. $600 bucks. A few months later, seat belt pre tensioner. $200 bucks. A few months after that, O2 sensor with the other seatbelt pre-tensioner and the fuel pump. $1500 bucks. The fuel pump died as I was crossing a busy intersection. Was Saturday and needed to get towed to the dealership. After intense arguing for 1/2 hr with GM VPs, they decided to pay half (Vehicle had about 50,000 miles or 80,000 kms at this point). A year after we got it, intake gasket and transmission problems. Another $800 bucks. Pre-mature tie rod end and ball joint replacement as well. Tranny would always whine and jerk into gear when hot even after fixing and tranny fluid flushes. Rear wiper motor never really worked at all either. The most recent and damning problem, head gasket blown. 130,000 Kms or 81,000 miles. Taxes included, a $2,400 dollar fix. It was -25c or -13F when my wife was going to work and called me saying she had no heat in the van and the temperature gauge was spiking. I knew right away. We took it to our local GM dealer to look and said it was a blown head gasket and it would be 2000 to fix plus taxes or $2,400. Well, we have been fed up with GM's attitude towards us from day 1 with their lack or concern for all the issues (corporate GM that is) so we went across the street to our local Honda dealer and traded it in on a brand new Civic. Never buying GM again. They just don't care. They lost 37.8 BILLION dollars last year...gee...I wonder why. Sh*tty product perhaps?

Venture Limited V6

I have had repeated intake manifold leaking in a 1998 Pontiac Montana, 2000 Chev Venture and 2002 Malibu. The Chevy dealer states that they are aware of the problem and supposedly new gaskets have been redesigned for Malibu. I am currently having problem with Venture, am going to by after market gaskets and see if this will fix problem.

Hope Toyota drives GM into the ground!
