BECM (Battery Control Module part # (24296900)) on my 2017 Chevrolet Volt failed. When the failure occurred the instrument display showed a -€œPropulsion Reduced-€ warning. At the same time the engine started (the traction battery was fully charged at the time) and the check engine light came on. I subsequently received an email from General Motors that they had detected a lithium ion battery problem with the car and to have it serviced within 7 days. The GM dealer subsequently diagnosed the issue as a failure of the BECM module. Although an online search of this issue shows that there have been hundreds of failures of this module there are no replacement parts currently available. The car has been sitting at the dealer for several weeks with no estimate of when a replacement part will be available. The dealer has recommended not driving the car until it is repaired. I was able to drive it to the dealer on electrical power after the failure occurred.

I received a 'Reduced Propulsion' message along with a check engine light and that progressed to a 'Engine not Detected" message and stranded along the interstate in a dangerous situation. Had it towed to a dealership which had a technician which could work on a volt - he replaced the Engine Control Module fuse which "fixed" the car for about 15 miles and then the 'Reduced Propulsion' error with the Check Engine light appeared. Technician said something must be shorting out the fuse. Dangerous situation.

I bought the car in 2020. It had intermittent problems with the car registering -€œshift to park-€ when the car was in park. This would not allow the car to be started, leaving me stranded. The intermittent problem has become much more frequent now. Yesterday and today 16 Dec 2021, the car is not ever registering that the vehicle is in park. The transmission display shows I am in -€œP-€ (park), but the display keeps saying -€œshift to park-€ and the car won-€™t start.

The car doesn't shut off. I get an error: "shift to park". Started yesterday, 11/9/21. I have to jiggle the gear selector to get it to shut off. I'm sure that is going to stop working for me. I've seen that their have been various lawsuits regarding this issue. Not sure what my next step is.

shift-to-park problem. This is a noted problem with these Volt's. The Dealer is charging around $450 to fix this problem. With more than a couple of service bulletins on this, it is a troublesome issue.

My Chevy Volt has the "Shift to Park" error. It intermittently will not turn off, which means you also cannot start it. This left me stranded at night in a county park, which closed before the tow truck could arrive. The car has 40,205 miles and the dealer says this problem is not under warranty because it is a "bumper to bumper" issue covered only under the 36,000 mile warranty. As categorized by NHTSA, this is an electrical and power train issue and is a glaring defect that is essential to the car even functioning and should not happen on a car with 40,000 miles.

When attempting to turn my car off, a message is displayed saying "SHIFT TO PARK". My car is already in park, and jiggling the gear shifter will generally get rid of the message. Sometimes this can take several minutes. It is not possible to turn my car off when this message is displayed, and the battery will die if the car is left with this message displayed. The car is available for inspection upon request. It is being repaired in the next few days though. The problem has been confirmed by a local mechanic. The problem has a class action lawsuit against GM for the issue: https://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2021/gm-shift-to-park-lawsuit-vehicles-cant-be-shut-off.shtml#:~:text=The%20car%20does%20not%20detect%20park%20mode%20and, and%20Maryland%20plaintiff%20Juanita%20Crawford%20%282017%20Chevrolet%20Malibu%29. The problem first appeared approximately 2 weeks ago without any prior notice or warnings, at 44,000 miles.

Car started giving message -€œPlace car in park-€, even though car is in Park. Thus not allowing me to turn my car off. I have to move it from Park to Drive multiple times before it registers and I can turn my car off. This happens at least once a day, but seems to be getting worse and worse-€¦ looking online many others are having same issue across many Chevy models.

After putting the vehicle in park, a warning comes up that says -€œaction shift to park-€ and the vehicle will not turn off or recognize that it is in park. Also the heater doesn-€™t work at all at times in the winter and only blows cold air, finally after driving for two weeks only once a message that said service heater came on but that was in the summer. The cruise control intermittently stops working. I have asked CarMax to service when it was under warranty and they couldn-€™t find anything wrong with it apparently. It has happened numerous times since and now it-€™s not under their warranty of course. I have photos of it happening and a video of the cruise control problem as well. These things have happened multiple times not just once so to put in a date of the incident I do not have enough dates that I can even put in. I have added my three photos. The additional photos are other peoples comments about the same cruise control problem when I researched if this was a common problem.

As do many other owners of Chevrolet Volts and Malibus, I have experienced the "Shift-to-Park" problem last year and again this year. The problem involves shifting to park and then shutting off the motor. The motor stops but the error message "Shift to Park to turn off engine" appears on the dashboard console. The engine has stopped, the car is in park, but the message continues. When I open the door, the beeping alert signal begins and continues. I had it repaired by the dealer last year and the 2017 Volt is back at the dealer's for the same problem again this year. There should be a recall for this widespread problem.
