I was driving about 40 mph and the emergency brake came on all by itself. All wheels locked up and I spun in a circle. Unable to control the car, the car was thrown off the road and into a culvert. I was scared to death! Car was thrown so hard off the road I was buried beyond the 2 feet of snow and buried into about 6 inches of mud. I got out of the car into water up to my knees. The emergency brake came on once before when I was backing out of a driveway on the crest of a hill. I put the car into reverse, put my regular brake on and put the car into drive. The car did not move, and a car came flying up the hill behind me honking its horn. At that time I thought it was a fluke things, but after being thrown off the road because of the emergency brake coming on by itself I now know that there is something definitely wrong with the emergency brake with this car.

Chrysler needs to do a recall for this serious problem that will result in serious injuries if not death. I now have a vehicle that I depend on to get me to work and I make monthly payments on each and every month and I am scared to death to drive it. Chrysler needs to do something ASAP to do right by their customers or there is going to a lot of serious injuries and deaths and Chrysler will be to blame. The complaints are out there and they are piling up - now do something!

THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED IN 2 MONTHS. It could be a very dangerous situation. Imagine going down the road and you re starting to slow down stepping lightly on the brake and the suddenly the EBRAKE comes on and you come to a dead stop in the middle of moving traffic and the dash says to step on the brake and push the EBRAKE button to release. I never activated the EBRAKE to start with. How could it activate on its own. CHRYSLER HELP YOU ARE GOING TO KILL PEOPLE IF YOU DON"T FIX THIS NOW!!!!!!!!! There was no user error in both situations.

Actually thought the issue was due to the driver not knowing how to use the e-brake. After it occurred 4 times I realized it wasn't and I took it to the dealership.

The first time it happened I was stopped ordering coffee and when I was told to drive thru I put my foot on the accelerator and the car wouldn't go. I thought perhaps there was snow or ice built up so I gave it more gas and the car moved but something was definitely wrong. By now the people behind me are honking their horns --I see the light lit up on the e-brake paddle and I release it and the car went forward and was fine. But it happened again at a red light, and again entering a gate arm parking lot, both of these times cars were behind me and seeing that I advanced a bit they too started to advance, almost rear ending me.

Once I took it to the dealership it happened with them, but they gave me the car back since they said they didn't know what was wrong with it. At the time I drove off of the lot and went to make a turn at the lights the ebrake came on and I was almost T-bone since I was sitting in the intersection unable to advance until I realized again the e brake had come on automatically. I was later advised that the dealership should never have allowed me to drive the car off the lot. Now the car sits with the Service Department.

This car is a death trap!!!

Could cause a bad accident if not corrected. Car has a message to shut vehicle off and engage brake, letting you know not to drive while its on, but I did not cut it on it came on itself. Trying to make it to the dealer it continued. I had to drive 15 miles to the dealer.

E Brake Turns on by itself- NO IT IS NOT POORLY LOCATED AND POSSIBLY TAPPED IT ON ACCIDENT. FYI it has to be pulled to activate (While pressing Brake)

This freaked me out at a red light- It cut on randomly and when i released the brake in that split second- my car lowered like if i was driving a low rider----Until i released it manually. (Pressing Brake then PUSHING IN the Parking Bake). The i went on like normal. This later happened about a week later but this time i was parked at home-Now im reading about it here and other forums. Id like to know if this is a glitch or faulty wiring so it can be addressed as a recall or manufacturer defect. This is a serious brake wear issue later on down the road that CHRYSLER LLC wont cover after the basic 3 year warranty is up.

So the second time the ebrake came on---Approached an intersection where the light was turing red. I slowed down, came to a complete stop and waited with my foot on the brake. Looking in my rear view mirror I can see traffic approaching me and the light turns green I take my foot off of the brake and go to accelerate and the car creeps forward like it is stuck. The car approaching me in my rear view mirror comes to a fast halt almost rear-ending me.

In panic mode I am trying to figure out what is wrong with this car and then remember the incident that happened at the drive thru. I look down at the e-brake paddle and sure enough, the light is lit up. I release the paddle and drive off with one angry driver behind me.

Finally take this death trap into the dealership and explain to them what is happening and the service department looks at me like I have three heads---you know the look "sure, sure, the e-brake is coming on by itself, sure lady. Is the light on the dash lighting up stating that the ebrake is on? NO. Well then I don't think that can happen, but we will check it out for you." After they have the car for the full day, I return and the one who didn't believe me says "I didn't believe you, but it just happened to me while I was parking your car".

So they called the "engineers at Chrysler" and since it was the end of the day they were going to get back to them, but I would have to return the vehicle to them so they could work on it. Not a problem I say--you can have it for a week while I am out of town. The Service Department hands me the keys and tells me to bring it back on the next business day.

Maybe because it was Friday the 13th ---- I drive off the lot down the street approaching a left hand turn, advance into the intersection to make my turn--stop and once I see the area cleared I try to advance, again the vehicle crawls since I am really giving it gas. I am now half into the oncoming traffic as a car comes screeching to a halt at my passenger door and in a panic I look down to see the ebrake on.

I release the paddle and drive. I had to pull over to the shoulder until I stopped shaking.

The vehicle now sits with Chrysler's Service Department. I was later told that Chrysler should never have allowed me to drive it once they confirmed that the ebrake was automatically coming on. Service called me later that week to ask if I take my seat belt off when I drive since the vehicle has a "safety feature" that will tell the car to go into e-brake if it senses that no one is in the vehicle. Safety feature my A- -.
