Gear shift on my 2006 Chrysler 300C got stuck in Park on June 25, 2017 after about 98,400 miles on it. Luckily my car was in my driveway when this problem occurred. I looked up issue online and found out this is a common problem with this car. I found Youtube videos on how to get it out of Park gear temporarily, and also videos on how to fix the problem yourself if you're mechanically talented. I haven't gotten it fixed by a mechanic or dealership yet. I've been able to remove the cover around gear shift, and use a screwdriver to get it out of Park gear every time I get in my car to drive it. So it helps to always have a screwdriver handy in your car if you have one of these car models. According to the videos I saw, you will eventually have this problem due to the poor design of the plastic piece that breaks off over time. Knowing this, Chrysler should have a recall on this problem.

I found this general letter regarding recall Notification Code K39 but when I called, they told me it only applied to the LX models. You can still file a complaint with Chrysler Customer Care to get them to do something about this problem. https://www.chrysler.com/webselfservice/pdf/K39.pdf

We are constant hearing about recalls, Chrysler should have a recall on gears shifts sticking. This poses a serious problem, puts us in danger of being assaulted, if stranded. I see this is a serious problem for a lot other Chrysler owners. Chrysler should value their customers much more.

My gear shift is locked in park. I contacted Chrysler and they informed me that the recall for this part does not apply to my car because it was manufactured before June of 2007. I researched this problem and found it is a very common problem with this car. However Chrysler has changed the part number to avoid covering it under the recall. The recall for this problem was covered under Chrysler Customer Satisfaction Notification K39 Transmission Shifter Interlock Lever:

I got up to go take care of some business and got in my car and could not shift out of park. I called Chrysler and they told me that because my car was built too early they were not going to fix it. Other people who have the same car and are having the same problem can get their cars repaired because their car was built later than mine. This is bull. Why doesn't Chrysler take care of their customers when their products default. They are quick to take my money for car, now when there is a obvious problem they won't help me a customer.

2006 Chrysler 300C Hemi, under 60,000 miles "STUCK IN PARK" 08/01/2014

The complaints you see here are far more common than Chrysler fully admits to, you can go on line and research the problem and/or question the dealership repair shop, I understand that the "stuck in park" does exist and under recall for vehicles with certain VIN numbers yet those of us (Chrysler owners) who do not fall in the correct VIN location must endure the pain, inconvenience and cost of repair for the same part breakage that the excepted VIN numbers have some relief for.

"Stuck in park" is not the problem, the real problem is, in my opinion, Chrysler's loyalty to us (owners), how do they (Chrysler) expect our loyalty when it's not shared.

I hope all Chrysler owners who have experienced the "STUCK IN PARK" will voice their complaint publicly so the numbers will be more accurate and those that are charged with our protection under some consumer act will come to our aid, I plan to keep my cost of repair slip in case our "protectors" stand up against Chrysler.

CHRYSLER!!! How long will you ignore this problem?

CHRYSLER!!! Do you carry the made in America pride? (I know it's not all American made)

When i inserted the key into the ignition, started the engine attempted to move the shifter from park into reverse, to my suprise, i could not get the shifter out of park. After all my attempts had failed to rectify the problem, it was now time to call AAA. The aaa tow truck driver tryed to get the gear shifter from park into reverse, he also failed. Another suprise, the tow thuck driver said that if he towed the car, aaa would not pay for it because my car tag registration had expired "my bad" now what do i do, i had to go to the NCDMV to get a new tag registration, however the vehicle has to be inspected first before they can renew the tag registration. My wife and i was able to get home that night by having our son come pick us up. I also found out "after the fact" that the problem was due to a failed 'BTSI System" and there is a way to get the gear shifter out of park. There is an "shift lock override button"that is located on the center console, by removing the bin next to the console. you are to depress the brake pedal and keep it depressed and start the engine (or) if you just want to shift out of park without starting the engine, turn the ignition key to ACC position. Locate the buttonalongside the right side of the shift gate press the button and move the shifter out of the park position.

This is a common problem caused by a defective Shift Interlock Lever. Chrysler should offer recall to replace the defective "pink thingy", but instead refer you to a Chrysler dealer which charges about $350 to fix the problem. You can find numerous videos online that tell you how to replace the defective part. First, get the replacement part (Dorman #924-706). Then do the replacement yourself or find a local mechanic to replace it for you. It's a 1.5 hr job, but you should be able to get it fixed for much less than $350.I found 4-5 excellent videos online showing the steps in detail on how to do the repair.

My husband called me from work and said he could not shift the car out of park. When I go there I tried as well. No warning lights on. Went home and googled the problem and was surprised to see how frequently that this has happened to others. In fact they even have videos out there showing how to bypass the neutral safety switch. We gathered our tools and went back to the car. We were able to get the car in drive and took it immediately to the chrysler dealership. The dealer called us and it will cost approximately $340 for the part not counting labor. We are a family that owns 3 Chryslers and appalled that Chrysler has not recalled especially when you google this Chryslers name is all over it. Just shows you they may no be the best people to buy from and when we go to replace our Chrysler's we will certainly look to do business with a better organization. They do not stand behind there work.

Parked my car in my driveway. Went out an hour later and the shifter would not come out of PARK. Tried to use the 'override' button hidden underneath but that appeared to be useless.

Had it towed to dealer. Dealer was familiar with the problem. Apparently I am definitely not the first. Many customers have brought their car in for this problem and still there is no recall from Chrysler. Dealer told me the Service Manager has emailed Chrysler to no avail. Chrysler never answers his email. If they ignore perhaps customer complaints will go away? IDIOTS!.

I may not get the results I want but I will not be quiet about this. Chrysler will know my name and cringe when they hear it.
