I thought I had done something wrong waxing it as much as I had when I bought it used in June of 2005. I was so proud of my first car when I bought it! Sporty, sexy, what else could a 19 year old want? Then the next summer, I noticed the same thing as the rest of you- this strange white spot on the back of the roof. I thought I had done something wrong. Over waxed, over washed, maybe even the salt from the winter slush splashing up, but that was the only place I could see any defect. Now, summer '08, there are spots on the trunk and hood, and most of the clear coat on the roof is gone and I'm down to bare paint. I was hoping to find some good news when I saw another 01 Sebring with the same problem a few days ago, but apparently, I'm SOL. What a shame that Chrysler won't stand by their product and help their consumers (therefore probably keeping most of us). It's a great little car outside of the crappy paint and clear coat. I agree- this was the first & last time I'll ever deal with Chrysler. If anyone hears of a class action suit, let me know..

Man, what a nightmare this car is turning out to be. It was just yesterday that I noticed what was happening to our trunk. ~GASP~ The paint literally cracked into vein like forms and mutated itself all across the entire trunk. I swear like it's out of an ALIEN movie. Each of the cracks are grey and the car is white so you can really notice the problem! It looks so horrible!! I'm so glad we're trading this crapmobile in. Pray for me so that we will make it to the dealership an hour away!! AND pray they take it in..!!

I bought the car new in 2001 and had it Simonized - as recommended by the dealer. When I first noticed the paint delaminating on the trunk, I contacted the dealer. I was told that they couldn't do anything because of the simonization, and the Simonize people said they couldn't do anything because their warranty had expired. The really interesting thing is that the de-lamination pattern is a honeycomb pattern, and in some places a very delimited rectangular pattern. I cannot imagine what kind of paint equipment would leave that type of mark??? The de-lamination has now spread to the roof, and I just noticed a spot on the hood. I'm thinking about getting car magnets signs saying that Chrysler has refused to do anything about the way my car looks!

Wow, I am so glad to find others who can feel my pain in this unfortunate incident. I bought my car brand new in 2001 and was fine with it and took very good care of it. Until I would say around 2004 I noticed flaking on the trunk, but thought nothing of it at first. Until very soon the whole trunk seemed to be stripped of all the paint. Since my car is black it is very noticeable to see the white seeping through underneath. I was very upset to see this happening to a car I took much pride in and very good care of, however after hearing of others trying to get their car repainted through Chrysler to no avail I pretty much gave up on trying to get it fixed. But now seven years later of owning the car, the problem continues to grow, now leaving my entire hood and trunk stripped of paint. I am a paralegal and would very much like to file a class action lawsuit against Chrysler. I find it very hard to believe that they can blame this many people for the paint coming off.

I will never buy another Chrysler product again because Chrysler refused to cooperate in finding a solution to my problem. It was reported to them over a year ago and they said the car has too many miles on it and it was too old. Tell your friends not to buy this product as Chrysler does not stand behind the customer when there is a problem. The car was purchased new off the showroom floor at the beginning of the 2002 Model year and had almost no miles on it at Nelson's Auto in Bellefontaine, Ohio. I cringe every time I look at my car.

The painted started to peel on the trunk first. Initially, I thought it might have been a build up caused by using the wax in the drive-thru car washes. I stopped going through the automatic washers, but the problem continued to worsen. The peeling and white look is all the way up on the roof of the car and is starting to make its way down the sides. I asked the local Chrysler dealership about getting it fixed about a year ago and their response was that there hadn't been any recall, so there was nothing they could do about it. I thought Chrysler was a reputable car manufacturer, but I guess not. I'll think twice before I buy another Chrysler product.

I purchased my first brand new Sebring December 2001. I was very excided. Then early 2006, I noticed something. My roof was turning white. First I thought it was dirt or something. I went and got it washed. The next morning I woke up and it looked like it was gone. Then I found out that it was the morning dew. Because later that afternoon, my roof was white again. I contaced Chrysler and they said paint was only covered up to 36 months. I was basically out of luck. The worst part, I did some online research and a few years before, the Sebring had a similar problem. You would have thought they learned their lesson. I guess not. I was proud buying an American car. Now I'm having second thoughts and looking to buy foreign after I figure out how to get this thing painted so I can have a little on my trade in. Chrysler stinks and I will never buy again.

We have bare metal in front of the sunroof where the paint has come almost completely off. It is almost as bad on the trunk and looks like it could be in the starting process on the hood. The car is garaged nightly and waxed on a regular basis with a non-abrasive wax. The paint (black) started coming off a little over a year ago. I read one of the other complaints & it could just as easily be ours. I have been reading where Chrysler was sued in the 80's because of peeling paint. I can't say the paint is peeling but it is slowly disappearing and it is NOT caused by acid rain. If it were, why aren't there other 5 year old cars or older out there where the paint is fine? I saw one article on the web where a judge said the paint should last 15 years. My husband's car started it when it was only 4.

I purchased my vehicle with 5 mi on it. It has been kept in a garage & well maintained. The very end of last year I noticed some flaking on the rear of the roof on the driver side. As of 9/18/06 it is now on the trunk, the top of the window on both sides of the vehicle, and the side panels. The roof now has areas that the clear coat is completely gone and it is down to the bare paint. The clear coat separated from the paint and is spreading rapidly. I brought it to S&L Motors in Pulaski this spring & was told they would do nothing. Chrysler World in Abrams also told me that Chrysler will not stand behind their product due to the mileage on the vehicle. It is rather troubling that a company would want their vehicle to be seen in this state being only five years old. I do not plan to leave this unnoticed, I will write an article to the paper, post wherever I can to warn consumers of Chrysler's poor customer service and until my vehicle is re-painted.

I had problems when I first purchased this car, the paint had swirls in the paint. After it was detailed it looked better. Keep in mind this is a black car. At 40,000 I noticed a flaking area on the trunk, took the car to the Dealer and they said that there was nothing that could be done. Now at 70,000 miles the car looks like it has Cancer. Grey flaking all over the trunk, hood and top of the car. I had an estimate to get it fix and it will cost $3,000 to fix. Too bad that Chrysler won't stand behind their product.
