The contact owns a 2001 Chrysler Sebring. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, she noticed an abnormal rubber smell as the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was driven onto the emergency lane and was restarted after approximately one hour. Additionally, the contact added freon to the vehicle. The vehicle was drivable but continued leaking freon. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic, who indicated that the water pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 131,000.

My husband and I were going to a friend's house. On the way the all of a sudden the engine started knocking loudly. He pulled over to check all of the fluids and everything seemed to be fine. When I got home I researched the issues and about 99% of 2001 Sebring convertible owners experienced the same engine problems and it stated that it was due to oil sludge. I called Chrysler and informed them of the issue and was told to take the car the a dealership near me. I was able to enjoy my car for about 2 days. They will continue hearing from me for a long time because I am a person that never gives up. I will pester them everyday until my demands are met with fixing or replacing my engine. It is not anyone's fault that they made a crappy engine for this model. Let the games begin.

The contact restarted the vehicle and the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the vehicle needed four quarts of oil. After putting the oil in the vehicle, the mechanic attempted to start the engine which made a rattling noise before it seized. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The failure mileage was 102,008.

The engine oil had become sludge as a result of oil build-up. The manufacturer was notified and stated that they could not replace the engine and offered no further assistance.
