The premature failure of the ball joints and tie rod ends/control arms is obviously not a new or unknown issue with the 2007 Caliber and I know for a fact the issue is far more common than what the number of complaints may indicate. Albeit, failure of these parts at 54,000 miles of normal driving is a totally unacceptable and unforgiving and seriously dangerous problem and Chrysler is apparently fully aware of it! Additionally, the "extended warranty" offered via the Chrysler Dealers appears to also be a bait and hook scheme. i.e. The top warranty program covers the ball joints - no problem. However, it does not cover the tie rod ends/controls arms and interestingly enough, you can't purchase them separately. What is wrong with this picture? Lastly, although I don't like the fact my residence state requires the car be inspected annually, in this case it was a good thing and possibly saved me/us (and some innocent others) from what could potentially have been a much more serious and costly incident. The other good thing is knowing its the last Chrysler product I'll own!

This is the THIRD time replacing my tie rod ends! Inners and outers went. The previous were covered under my warranty, but this time they are out of it, so the repair costs are MINE.! $800 + to repair! This is the first time the ball joints had to be replaced. Thank God.

I was told that a manufacturing defect of the tie rod end was the reason for the continuous issue, that an extremely large shipment had been compromised. That was in 2009. My mechanic says this is a reoccurring issue, he has seen it 2x recently in 2007 calibers. GGRREEAATT! So, 3x since I purchased this vehicle in July 06, to now Sept. 10, they have been replaced.

I cant believe the number of similar complaints. It's almost like they planned the ball joints and tie rods to fail. This is the last Dodge I will ever own!

have a 2007 dodge caliber sxt, has 70000 miles on it but still not enough to have to spend almost a grand to fix. car was pulling real bad during acceleration and making grinding sounds while turning. took it to my mechanic and he lifted it up off the ground and stood in amazement as the tires just sagged. could move them with no problems. the ball joints, and both the inner and outer tie rods were completely shot. mechanic said it was the worst he has ever seen that were still attached to a vehicle. cost $946 to have them all replaced.

he called on my behalf to file a complaint with chrysler, they pretty much told him since i didnt take it to a dealership and that it wasnt under warrenty it was no longer their problem, also told him that since there was 70000 miles on it thats why the parts failed. he told them to fly a kite, tie rods and ball joints should not fall apart after 70000. Needless to say i will never buy a chrylser product. pretty clear why they had to file for bankruptcy now.
