Caravan

  • Automatic transmission
  • 82,000 miles

My van has 82000 miles and has always been taken care of, driven with ease and great care. I cannot understand why all of a sudden the transmission is going out. It slips from the minute I put into reverse to back out of the drive way and slips off and on just driving down the road. I now no longer can drive this vehicle. I am just amazed how this can happen overnight and am really saddened by the loss of my van due to the fact that I cannot afford to fix it. I think 82000 miles is to short of a life for a transmission!!

I think it's bullcrap that Dodge won't do a recall... I have researched it and alot of these vans are having a problem with this! They should pay not us.

Caravan SE 3.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 82,000 miles

Seriously, don't buy a Dodge Caravan. They eat transmissions. 1st trans. at 82,000 and the next at 139,000 miles.

Caravan

  • Automatic transmission

This has been a great vehicle the entire time that I have owned it. Only regular maintenance and there were two recalls that were repaired as they came up. This morning after driving half a block and stopping at a stop sign it was as though the car had slipped into neutral. I put the car in park and then back into Drive and it was fine, at least until the next stop sign. Again same problem, this time I just put my foot on the brake and let it idle and you could feel it go into gear. No loud noise, or grinding, it just went into gear. Then it was fine the rest of the day. Brought it in and was told that there were a few leaks. The pan was leaking, some solenoid was leaking and then they had to tighten some clamps on two hoses. Needless to say, they called me up and informed me that it would cost $680 plus taxes. So $800 to fix a couple of leaks. Hopefully this is the only problem I have for a while, knock on wood!!

Caravan LE

  • Automatic transmission
  • 135,000 miles

Our 2000 caravan has this problem where after putting the car in gear (R or D) it will not engage and just idle as if in neutral for 30 - 45 sec, then it will engage. It does this once or twice first thing in the morning - then is fine the rest of the day.
