Dakota SLT V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 94,000 miles

there was no warning on this, when I started it up it just wouldn't shift out of first gear, took the dealership a week to fix it. Apparently some part inside the transmission was stuck.

Dakota Sport V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 90,000 miles

Same exact problem as complaint #1. I've been worried that there's something wrong with my transmission but I haven't gotten anything checked out yet. I never use my cruise control for this reason, unless I'm on a completely flat road.

Erratic downshifting on a 2002 Dodge Dakota QC, SLT, 4x4, Tire size LT265/70/R16, Wal-Mart Liberator A/T Tires.

Tire size is 1 size over manufacture recommended. No suitable A/T tires (other that Wrangler RT/S) in rim size.

Once I reach highway cruising speed (70 mph) with the slightest depression of the gas pedal, The transmission downshifts. Very bad if using Cruise control and encounter a slight hill, The transmission often downshifts 2 gears to 4K RPM until it levels off again. creates murder on Gas Mileage! Forget about towing even the slightest load. Towing any type of load at 65MPG has resulted in 10.5-11 MPG. Non-Load Avg 13.8-14.5 MPG.

Vehicle runs better at 65MPG or 80MPH. 70MPH highway cruising speed will not hold in OD Gear.

Several recommendations were to replace Throttle Position Sensor. Unclear about solution since only occurs in OD. Replaced sensor ($24 @ Autozone) and no change to problem.

Transmission Control Module flash? Only soluition I can figure is bad programming.
