Durango Crew 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,600 miles

I had a TIPM replaced under warranty after about two years of owning the vehicle. Had the TIPM repaired under the recall that came out a couple years after that. Now the same things are happening with the door locks that leads me to believe the TIPM is failing again. Vehicle has 60K miles and shouldn't need a third TIPM repair. And since my vehicle is out of warranty, I am sure that I will have to pay for this one out of pocket. Ridiculous. Clearly something is wrong.

Durango Crew 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 36,500 miles

Until last November, we never had any issues with our Durango, and then the fun started! My wife started the Durango with the remote start function. Vehicle started just fine. 10 seconds later it shut off. She tried it a few more times and got the same response. At this time, the engine light was illuminated (steady). I took to the online world and found that the vehicle will respond in this way while the light is illuminated. I checked the gas cap and made sure it was tight. The light eventually went out later that day. 3 days later, the engine light came on again. So we now cannot start the vehicle with the remote start feature. Just recently the heater has been turning on all by itself (after having been shut completely off). If you turn it off, then it should stay off! I also had an issue where the lift gate opened while driving through my neighborhood (this occurred just prior to the starting issue). That was really strange and a bit scary. I closed the lift gate and got home later and discovered that it would not open......period! Nothing would work. The FOB, door latch, rear door button in the console wouldn't even work. We went without the door opening for about a week and it just magically started working again just a few days prior to my scheduled appointment at the dealer.

TIPM faulty

Cannot believe Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep Won't immediately address this headache. The TIPM or under the hood Fuse box is totally defective. Everyone of the relays are manufactured by Omron (http://kb.dcctools.com/index.php?View=entry&EntryID=335) So all of the relays are subject to deteriorating contacts as shown on this site http://verticalvisions.com/TIPM_solutions.php .

I purchased this car,2012 Dodge Durango, through Enterprise Car sales for my wife, I will not let her drive it. So I have a large dangerous paper weight sitting in my driveway. The only solution is to replace the Whole TIPM and the replacement TIPM should be totally sealed from moisture and Dielectric grease placed on all contact points. Chrysler Jeep Dodge are trying to patch this problem, Fuel Relay, with an external relay NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!

We need reliable relays and the ones used are ALL Subject to Corrosion. So Chrysler Jeep Dodge patches in relays that will fail again so be warned.
