I purchased my Dodge Durango on 07/17/13. I was very pleased with the vehicle. One of the many things I liked about the car was the tire pressure monitoring system located in the instrument panel, which shows, when selected, the air pressure in all 4 tires. I particularly liked this for long drives towing a trailer. While driving I would just push a button and know how much pressure was in each tire and could prepare to take care of them at the next gas station.
Since it was time for my first maintenance and I was leaving on Aug 3, for a long trip going through WA, CO, TX and return. And since I would be towing a trailer for the first half of that trip, I decided to take the vehicle into Dodge for its first maintenance check. Before I took the vehicle in, I was checking through my systems and I noticed that my TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) failed to show in my instrument panel/cluster when I selected it. Every thing else was OK..
On 07/17/13 I took my Dodge in for the service check. I asked that the TPMS be checked because it no longer showed. All checks were done and was told the TPMS problem was not fixed and that they would contact tech support to get it information. On 07/24/13 Dodge called and told me to bring in my vehicle they had a fix for the TPMS problem. The Tech did a battery disconnect which did not help. lowered the tire pressure, performed a TPMS reset. Also did not work.Reset the cluster and again, did not help. He then ordered a new cluster an installed it and now the four tires show up in the cluster. Happy camper, END OF STORY Right!...wrong!
On the way home I decided to check my TPMS and found nothing! The TPMS did not show up again. Called Dodge again and was told to bring the vehicle in again. Brought vehicle in on 07/29/13. The tech told me that the TPMS was not showing up because Tech Line said that this system on my Durango does not have a TPMS display!!
What I thought would be an easy fix turned into a nightmare! When I bought the vehicle the Sales Consultant, Wille Newcomb, showed me the TMPS as part of his operating review. I had the system on my vehicle for nearly a year, before I noticed it missing. It shouldn't be there??? Now what was a small deal became a big deal. I got in touch with Dodge main customer service dept. They contacted there techs with my problem. The answer was that the particular model did not have 4 wheel TPMS but only a warning light! Two people believe that I never saw a 4 wheel TPMS system. I wasn't lying!! Pissed I asked to talk to someone above customer service, I I received a contact who works for Dodge Customer Assistance Center. A guy named Gus. It took almost a month for him to contact me to tell me that my modal did not have 4 wheel TPMS. Excuse me! Ont the sticker that was on the Durango it said under STANDARD EQUIPMENT: TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR With WARNING LIGHT. Base System: The Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) uses wireless technology with wheel rim mounted electronic sensors to monitor tire pressure levels. Sensors, mounted to each wheel as part of the valve stem, transmit tire pressure readings to the Receiver Modules.
The TPMS consists of the following components:
Receiver Module
Four Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensors
Tire pressure Monitoring Tell Tale Light
The "Tire Pressure Monitoring Telltale Light" will illuminate in the instrument cluster, a "Low Tire Pressure" message will display in the instrument cluster for a minimum of five seconds, and an audible chime will be activated, when one or more of the four active road tire pressures are Low. This is the base system on my vehicle. I know it was there when I bought the car and it was there for nearly a year.
So I ask you what the hell is going on?? I guarantee If anyone reading this were to buy a vehicle for $42,000, and one of the features was this TPMS feature, which they liked and used for a year which suddenly disappeared, they would have Dodge either fix it or give them a new Dodge that has this feature in a workable damn order! What is this crap about your model doesn't have a TPMS feature! Does not compute!!
