Grand Caravan LX

  • Automatic transmission
  • 83,264 miles

June 9, 2010 I took my Caravan in to the dealer (Team Chrysler, Mississauga Ontario) as the a/c was not working. They told me the problem was a valve and a line with the cost being $825 plus tax. They gave me a discount and the total was $807. Since my kids sit in the back I needed to get the repair done as it gets stifling back there. I may have had the a/c on 5 minutes between the date of repair and last week. On July 3rd it was hot and I turned it on and guess what. All I got was hot air. Returned to the dealer yesterday and was advised there was a SLOW leak and the rear line needed replacing and would cost a further $1000 to fix. I was furious. If they had found this the first time and told me that the a/c would cost $1825 to fix I would have refused. Now I have no a/c and out $825. Any suggestions.

So ticked off.... Can't even get the part, I am 581 on the list as they are back ordered!

101 today and I can't take my children in the van, due to heat exposure. It looks like I will go the entire summer w/o a/c. This should be a recall...oh, did I mention going to cost $1000 to fix!

Never buy Dodge again!

Grand Caravan SXT 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 67,000 miles

Like others, our 2005 Grand Caravan needs the rear evaporater core replaced, the estimate is $913.00. They've got to be kidding! I declined the fix until I can save up the money. On the way home the shop called me and suggested that I call Dodge as they seemed to think theres a recall. I called Dodge and they said no there isnt. They did tell me the airbag sensors do have a recall though. So annoying!

Grand Caravan SXT 41000

  • Automatic transmission
  • 39,000 miles

A/C was hot/cold/hot/cold and making hissing noises. I took it in and they said it was the rear AC coil freezing up. They replaced it and then the compressor started "clanging & banging", so the A/C compressor had to be replaced next.....will add this as an additional complaint.

Grand Caravan Special Edition 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 39,000 miles

I hate to be hot!!!!!!!! I have a 2005 Special Edition Dodge caravan. ( The most uncomfortable vehicle on the road). My husband started seeing a small yellow puddle coming from the back of the van when I would park it at the end of the day. At first not alarmed and I did not notice any changes in the can so no problem to report. The puddle started getting bigger and I started noticing the van was not cooling off as it should be. When I told my husband that the van A/C was not working properly he checked it for low freon and found it low and added a pound and 1/2 of freon..

That worked for a short time (very cold) and eventually started heating up again. I told him it was not cooling as it should again and at that time he started looking for other problems with the sealed syste.. He noticed 2 lines going from the back of the van to the evaporator and leaked checked it and was able to trace a leak (bubbles) coming from this evap box. He took it apart and found 2, O rings inside of the evaporator that looked ok but knew the leak was coming from that area and replaced them, recharged the system and checked again for leaks. The leaks are still there.

How can a 3 year old van have sealed system problems unless there is a problem with the equipment installed from the factory. I know this will cost a billion dollars to repair and I'm P----- off! I am a total a/c freak and will die without my a/c. Are there any recalls on this system that you or anyone else out there knows of I would be very appreciative of any info on this problem. Thank you Bonnie Mazzara

Grand Caravan SXT 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 225,000 miles

I noticed a the ac wasn't working properly back in March. But who needs ac in cold weather. So when the nicer weather finally came it sure would have been nice to keep cool.

My warranty expired in February but the dealership had already replaced the evap tubes on the rear ac unit back in May of 2007 and said if the problem is related they would cover the parts and labor under warranty. Of course it wasn't related and the cost to repair was a wopping $663.00 unbelievable!!! There isn't even 23,000 miles on this vehicle

Why should I be worrying about these kind of problems. I'm sure i'm not the only one being shafted by Chrysler. There are so many problems with the rear ac evaporators that they are on a national backorder. Shouldn't that prompt the industry to send out a recall?
