Check engine light came on while on vacation 7 hours from home. Immediately went to the first Dodge dealer I found to find out what the problem was as we were due to drive home the next day.

EGR valve was sticking & needed replacing. Dealer said it was safe to drive home and could have it taken care of there. Got an estimate from my local dealer in the $225 range. Will be replacing it ourselves - found a YouTube video explaining exactly how to do it. Will cost about $60 for a new EGR valve and an hour of our time.

Engine light kept coming on, read the codes and it said the egr valve was not operating correctly. Engine ran fine, cleaned egr valve and put back on, did not help. Finally had to replace it and all seems fine now. Known issue because the local dealer had 7 on the shelf!

Not a complaint.... I am definitely not a mechanic and was able to replace the EGR valve/solonoid for this vehicle. While it was a little hard to get to, it was something really anyone can do. I figured 1-2 hrs max. All you need is a 1/4inch socket drive, 8mm &10mm, swivel and 2" extension and some PB Blast spray. Not hard and saved me by the looks of the cost $250....

check engine light came on, did the key trick to get the code (p0404), EGR needs replacing. we have a gold plan on the car 5yr/100,000km. guess what... it's not covered under warranty, thanks dodge. Halifax dodge wanted to charge me for them to diagnose the problem, when I already told them what it was.

Grand Caravan SXT 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 55,000 miles

Check engine light came on, and I found that if you turn your key from the run to on position multiple times, I think it was like 3 times, the odometer will display the error codes. I looked the codes up online, and they pointed to the EGR valve. I then just bought one from a dealer for $75 (some dealers were more expensive, but you can also get them online). Then I replaced it myself. I was very easy, and only has 2 bolts.

700 miles out of the standard factory warranty, We get a check engine light on. This is NOT the only problem BTW!!! We had numerous ABS sensor problems, automatic door locks wiring problems. The garage is ordering a part to replace in the emissions system, I believe it was called an EGR valve. Definitely looking for a new car after this!
