Grand Caravan 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 130,000 miles

2009 Dodge Grand caravan would randomly stall after startup. Once it was turned off and restarted, it would start just fine. Dealer said the TIPM module was going out and could cause the van to stall during driving. It was $1,400 to repair.

My mother brought me her 2009 grand caravan with total electrical failure. Before the doors would open when you would press a button now they don't anymore, the trunk is locked and I can't seem to get it open. The turn signals don't work, the radio won't turn on. All the lights on the dash come on, the windshield wipers are constantly on and won't turn off unless I take the fuse out. The hazards work but don't indicate on the dash that they are on.

After having this problem, NOW I find out Chrysler has been continuing to churn out complete POS vehicles and no one is doing anything about it. They are complete throwaway vehicles that are worth NOTHING as soon as you drive them off the lot! The TIPM thing is DANGEROUS!

It happened a few weeks ago where it took a few turns of the key in the ignition for the van to start. Didn't think much of it until a week ago when it happened every time we started the van. We had replaced the batteries in our key a few months ago because the lock/unlock buttons stopped working. When we replaced the battery we kind of cracked the black part of the key, so we thought we just had a crappy key that needed to be replaced. So when this crap started happening with the van not starting, I called Dodge dealership to ask how much keys were. He asked for my VIN, gave it to him, he told me good news!....that there was a recall for the ignition and with that came TWO NEW KEYS! Super excited I made an appt for that day. Went to leave for the appt and after at least 100 turns of the key, the van would not start. I had to have it towed to the dealership. They replaced the ignition, tried starting it, took a couple tries (they didn't tell me this till later) then it started so they drove it up front and said i was all set. I was so excited, went to try to unlock my van, didn't work, so I took out the real key to unlock it, put the key back in the black part, tried to start van....didn't start. Guy came out, said something else is going on but they can't take a look at it until Monday (this is Friday). I've done research, spoke with a mechanic family member, and am pretty sure it's a faulty TIPM, that I have found has had many complaints with this make model. Wondering why there hasn't been a recall for it!!!

In searching the internet, I have found that multiple people are experiencing this same problem with their Dodge and everyone had to pay around the same amount. This has to be a glitch with Dodge that the manufacuter should be correcting.
