I specifically chose the least equipped model to avoid that kind of defect. I owned 10 years+ cars which a/c worked the whole life of the vehicle without problems.

Grand Caravan SXT 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 62,137 miles

My vehicle is Canadian manufacture. The US recall covers the cost of new actuators. In Canada the wording "under standard warranty" is added to the notification, so they won't cover the cost. It is $600.00 to repair. Obviously Chrysler has noted the manufacturing defect as they are paying for the US recall, but here in Canada I was treated very badly on the phone by their representative (she lied! Said that Transport Canada was responsible for them not paying!!) and I am out of pocket to repair something that is a manufacture defect.

I received recall "Reprogram HVAC Control Module R62" stating Dodge would "repair your vehicle free of charge. To do this your dealer will reprogram the heater Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) control module with new software. Vehicles found with damaged actuators must ave them replaced...."just bring along this letter". Went to dealership with my letter expecting all to be covered. What they said is "what dodge didn't tell you is you're screwed if your vehicle has over 60K miles". I was at 64K miles. How can that be omitted from the letter? So I called the FCA hotline and boy did I get the run-around. The first person told me "we'll pay everything go to a different dealer". So I did. That dealer told me the same thing the first. So I called FCA again "Oh sorry the dealer is right we won't pay to fix your damaged actuator". I said "what about this letter you sent telling me you will? FCA "Oh sorry about that but we won't pay a dime." Wow. $450 out of pocket for damage caused FIRST by some outsourced firmware developers contracted by FCA headquarters who didn't do QA testing extensively enough and then FCA/Dodge/Caravan who don't follow through with integrity to fix as their letter clearly indicates. I've read on cargurus that the problem has come back multiple times for some. https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t26390_ds545467 Also I've read there is a possible way to reset the actuators: 1. Try disconnecting your battery for a while to clear the memory. 2. Try this: Start the van with both dual air pre-dialed to cold, then once on try slowly turning both knobs in synchronous to hot. Then back down to cold, then up to hot. Slowly. I've also heard to try this while driving (obviously as the passenger)

Grand Caravan Blacktop Package 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 16,200 miles

This vehicle was purchased brand new in July 2014. As of May 2015, the air conditioning will not work on the passenger side of the vehicle. It works fine on the driver's side but the passenger side blows hot air, as if the heat was on full blast on that side. I took it to the dealer and the technician performed a "modification" to the "head unit" and was able to get the A/C to blow cold on both sides. It was noted that this procedure was a "temporary fix" and that a new "blend door" would be ordered and installed at no charge, due to the warranty. One week has gone by and I called the dealer to see if the blend door has arrived. I have a scheduled appointment next week to get it installed.
