Serves me right. Everyone warned me about buying an Intrepid. They said it was a piece of crap but I didn't listen. Well, they were right. I bought this car for 3,500.00 and fell in love with the way it rides. Too bad my joy didn't last long. The piece of crap turned off on me while I was driving on a busy road and would not start back up. I come back to it with Tripple A in about an hour and it ran just fine so I drove it to the dealer for repair and they replaced the camshaft and crankshaft sensors and the oxigen sensor. A few days later, it did it again while I was driving on the highway and I almost had an accident. Once again, when the tow truck gets there 30 minutes after it turns on again. I've had it with this junk. I'm afraid to drive it. I will have to sell it for parts since no one wants it. Oh and btw...I curse you DODGE. You should step in and recall these useless junks before someone gets hurt. I just changed my mind about buying another dodge. DAMN you.

SO MY DODGE INTREPID SUDDENLY STOPPED RUNNING ONE DAY. I WENT TO THE MECHANIC, HE SAID THE ENGINE WAS ALL SLUDGED UP. HE ASKED WHEN I CHANGED THE WATER PUMP, I HAD NO IDEA WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT. THEN HE SAID THAT THE WATER PUMP SHOULD BE REPLACED EVERY 100,000 MILES OR 7 YEARS, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST, AND THAT WOULD PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING BECAUSE THESE PARTS DO NOT LAST FOREVER. HE'S TOLD ME ABOUT INTREPIDS WITH THE 'NOTORIOUS' 2.7 THAT ARE REACHING 200,000 EVEN 250,000 MILES BECAUSE THE OWNERS ARE GETTING WORN OUT PARTS CHANGED BEFORE IT GIVES THEM ISSUES. APPARENTLY THIS ''WATER PUMP'' DEVICE HE'S TALKING ABOUT WAS LEAKING PROFUSELY, AND SINCE THE ''WATER PUMP'' DOOHICKEY IS INSIDE THE ENGINE, ITS SURROUNDED BY OIL. WHEN THE ''WATER PUMP'' THINGAMAJIG LEAKS EXCESSIVELY, BEYOND ITS WEEP HOLE CAPACITY, IT LEAKS ANTI-FREEZE DIRECTLY INTO THE OIL, THEREFORE CREATING SLUDGE, THEREFORE CREATING MY PROBLEM. BUT DODGE SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME SOMETHING. BUT THEN I READ THE OWNER'S MANUAL, AND SO MANY THINGS I DIDN'T EVEN THINK ABOUT WERE LISTED AS ''MAINTENANCE'' ITEMS. SO I GUESS I LEARNED SOMETHING FROM THIS. LEARN HOW TO MAINTAIN A VEHICLE BEYOND OIL CHANGES AND THE CAR WILL TREAT YOU WELL. PUMPS, PLUGS, BELTS, CHAIN TENSIONERS, ETC DO NOT LAST FOREVER, SO CHECK THAT MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE AND GET IT TAKEN CARE OF BEFORE IT BECOMES A PROBLEM. PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE; WHO WOULD'VE THOUGHT?!

car stopped running, won't start car stopped running, won't start

The day I bought my 2000 Dodge Intrepid I fell in love with it. I still love the car itself, just want to take a sledgehammer to the engine. I bought it on 2/17/11 so I've had it for five months. My last Chrysler product was a '68 Fury III, so not to experienced with this product. In the last few days, I have been horrified about what I'm reading on the internet about the 2.7L engine. My problems from the start, with 20/20 hindsight of course, was that in February I was having a problem keeping the heat from going from hot to cold. There was also a slight knock. A couple of months later I had a problem with my coolant system loosing fluid. Trying to save a buck, I'm on unemployment, I tried a sealant before calling my mechanic. It seemed to do the trick and ran great until 7/20/11 which is also the day I took it into the dealership for a free 27-point inspection which included the coolant system and all fluids. The car was running fine when I handed service the key. When I went to get my car, the first thing I noticed was a thick milky dried substance all over my windshield, hood, front bumper and engine. I didn't think much of it and left. Within a mile from the dealership I could tell "something" was wrong. About half way to my destination, I heard a pop from the car, it got sluggish for a few seconds but still drove. Upon trying to leave my destination, the car would not start. I let it sit for about 2 hours and it started right up. No lights on and gauges were normal. At that point all I wanted to do was get it home but I didn't get near. My oil light came on, my temperature gauge started dropping drastically, car started struggling, and by the time I got it parked it died. After allowing time to let the oil drain into the oil pan I checked the oil. There was none readable on the dipstick. I had just added a quart a few days before because it was a bit low! I immediately contacted the guy in service I was dealing with and he said they hadn't touched my car because I couldn't afford to hook up to their machines. What about the 27-point inspection for free? He also tried to tell me that they never even put my car in the bay, yet I saw it in the bay with my own eyes. Then he tried to explain away, not very clearly, that the white milky fluid had come from my coolant system. Well, if he never touched my car and it was never in a bay how could he know that? My car, obviously now, was on it's way through the expiration of the 2.7L engine and I didn't know. I just think that the dealership did something to make it immediately go.

So, now I'm dealing with a 3,500 pund paperweight sitting at my friends house where I had it towed. I immediately called Dodge Corporate and they assured me they would research it and call me back. Of course, I've heard nothing. I've had cars for 27 years and have never seen anything like this. I saw a post on another site from a 20 year Chrysler mechanic who said that Chrysler knew there were problems with this engine before it even went on the production line yet did nothing. I have multiple illnesses so they are messing with my very life now. I am FURIOUS and I will beat my head against that brick wall until I have blood in my eyes before I let Dodge get away with this! I don't know if putting a 3.2L engine in it would help, but who can afford that? I paid almost $4000 for a piece of junk engine that Chrysler is trying to cover up. Certainley this is morraly wrong, but isn't it bad business too? Wake up Chrysler and own up to your mistakes! ARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

THIS IS CRAZY HOW THEY WILL NOT STEP UP AND FIX THIS FAULTY ENGINE PROBLEM. WOW IS ALL I CAN SAY. ALL OF US OUT OF A CAR DURING A TIME LIKE THIS WHEN THE ECONOMY SUCKS. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND THE CAR STOPPED ON ME AND WOULDN'T START BACK UP. IT SMOKED A BIT AND THE MECHANIC SAID BLOWN HEAD DUE TO THE WATER IN THE OIL. WHEN HE SHOWED ME THE OIL IT LOOKED LIKE CHOCOLATE MILK. ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE!! SO I HAVE TO BUY A NEW CAR CAUSE ITS NOT EVEN WORTH FIXING TO HAVE IT HAPPEN AGAIN. I have had a series of problems with my Intrepid after 70,000 miles but had managed around them until 1/14/10. I was driving on the highway, went through the toll booth and could hear some low grade grinding noise, the oil light lamp stating flashing, the car at 60 mph starting feeling sluggish then all of a sudden I had to merge all the way to the rt side feeder as the car was loosing power, dying. I safely got to the feeder but the car wouldn't start after that. I have no clue what the problem is and was alarmed a car could loose all power at 60 mph.

Intrepid 2.7L V6

  • Automatic transmission

Sometime around May, I was driving on the expressway at about 75mph and out of no where my car just shut off and about 10-15 seconds later it just came back on just by itself. Then a few days later when I was driving to work the car just died and I had to pull off the road before I got hit, finally about 5 minutes later it started back up. These problems continued quite often so I took it to my mechanic and the computer didn't register any faults so he made a few calls and decided that it could be the Echlin Cam Sensor, so he replaced it which cost $240.76, I figured it wasn't bad but the next day on the way to work it died about 3 times in 45 minutes once on the expressway, once driving on the side road and right after I got it started back up it died at the stoplight and took awhile to start back up. I called my mechanic and he said that since the computer isn't registering any faults that the only thing he could do was keep replacing sensors until the problem stopped. When I got my next check i took the car back in and he replaced the Echlin Crank Sensor which cost 175.14 this time. The car hasn't stalled on me since so at least THIS problem is fixed.(FOR NOW).

I hate that stupid Intrepid. It was my first car. I bought it for a thousand dollars. It ran for 10 miles and the engine broke down. Had to get it towed, then they told me that it would be $2500 to fix the car!!! No way! Never buy a 2000 intrepid b/c it's a worthless piece of crap that you will waist your $$ on. I worked for 5 months for that car and all that $$ went down the drain b/c of the stupid engine. Not until later did I learn that many people have trouble w/ Intrepid engines! It's a beautiful car, but don't waste your $$!

I was driving and all at once it stop. I try to restarted the car and it would not keep running . I was able to get it back home . Then was told it was the fuel pump so I got that , I was told by Dodge the car has three fuel cesor. and I got all of them . I car still would not run. So I took it to the shop my son works at. He broke it down and was told that a rod was broken. Plus, a bolt broke off the water pump , and thats what had made the rod brake. I do Think that Dodge should get us a break on fixing our car. We buy these cars and Love the style of Dodge. We trusted this company. All of us need to get together and sue the company. I brought an engine for the car. I was not going to pay for a car that I can't drive. And now the second engine is getting hot and starting to run bad . So now I am afraid that I will have to buy another engine . I can not buy another motor. I spent all of my savings for the first one. I love my car and I'm working very hard to keep it. When I brought this car I was not told that this car had 7 things wrong with it. I checked on kelly blue book and it listed 7 things wrong. I guess being a woman, car dealers will take your money and say we got an other one HA HA!, I wish there was something we could do about this. We as Americans should not let a company do this to us and the company should have a recall. It would cost a lot but look what it cost us , you pay for the car, if you don't it will go on your credit, as a bad point on you, But It will be paid off in Aug and then I maybe, I hope to god, not a other motor. I paid 2600.00 for the motor, plus all of the rest. oh well and other expense. thank you linda

Car had been fine until 85,000 miles. Several electric window motors were replaced under warranty. Then the engine started chugging and the check engine light came on. Had it checked out and nothing definitive was found. It happened again and then would not start for a few days after I got it home. Had it towed from my house. My mechanic replaced the cam and crank sensors. Ran like a champ for week before it died in traffic while doing 45mph. It sat for 36 hours in a strange neighborhood. Went back and tried to start it before having it towed again. It started. No check engine light and it ran fine all the way to the shop. My guy checked it again and everything was "normal". Drove it for another few days before it shut off while driving again. Luckily it was me and not my daughter or wife driving the car and I was able to push it to safety. Just got a ride home from a friendly cop. If I can get it to run long enough to trade it in, it is gone tomorrow. Only blessing is that it is paid off.

Give me 1/2 of what is worth. I want it gone!
