Intrepid 2.7L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 127,800 miles

I have a Dodge Intrepid Base 2.7L V6 with a mileage of 127,900. When I bought the car used, my mechanic checked the oil pressure. It was low and he cleaned the oil pan to remove the oil sludge and changed the oil pan gasket. To prevent this issue, always use synthetic oil. I am using Pennzoil Ultra to prevent oil sludge build ups and clean your engine. It is also recommended by the dealer. Also, change your oil every 2500-3000 miles instead of changing every 5000 miles. It is better to spend money on oil that cost $100 than spending money for a new engine that cost $4000. I also use Chevron 87 octane gas because it is currently the best quality of gas in the market. Never use premium because it will decrease the performance of the engine and it is not recommended by the manual. Also, I always warm up my engine before running the car to prevent burning oil that could end to oil sludge build up. When my car is on stop/idle and I step on my gas pedal, I gently push it very slowly to prevent stressing the engine.
If the gas pedal is stepped on gently to accelerate rather than slammed to the floor to beat out the car in the next lane at a red light, better gas mileage is achieved. When the gas pedal is depressed hard, the gas engine burns fuel and stresses the engine. I am pretty sure 95% of those people in here who filed complaints did not follow those procedures and ended up this problem.

Intrepid 2.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 134,000 miles

Add me to the pile of Dodge owners who had a car that literally became worthless in just seconds. Fortunately, I bought it used for about $2100 and it lasted me 2 years and about 30,000 miles before the engine simply locked up while I was driving 45mph on the highway (it's never in a nicely lit, easily accessible area, is it...?) My parents blamed me for not checking the oil enough, and perhaps that's true since some posters claim you could avoid this if you get an oil change every 2,000 miles, lol... Whatever, good riddance to an inevitable problem...

So, I just went and bought a 2000 Dodge Stratus for $1900 and anticipate it'll last a bit longer. A replacement engine for the Intrepid would've cost well over that and quite frankly, my gently used Stratus has a sunroof, sips much less gas and doesn't have weird electrical gremlins inside of it unlike the Intrepid, so life isn't too bad. If you bought a 2.7 Dodge Intrepid *new*, however, then I feel bad for you in a genuine way. I'll be sure to mention this to anybody considering a new Charger, Challenger or other car-of-the-moment they come up with.

Intrepid 2.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 175,000 miles

The Intrepid was in the shop I normally use for one week, with no diagnosis resulting, so I had them send it over to the local dealership for further tests. They have had the car for over a month now, and told me the problem is oil sludge and stretched timing chain (and need to also replace sprockets and guides). In other words, the engine is shot. I researched this problem online and found this is common for the 2.7 engine. It has a design flaw that produces oil sludge, with some cars going out at under 50,000 miles. I also found that if I replace the engine I should go for a 3.2 or 3.5. We're in the midst of that discussion right now with the dealership service department. We're going on month 2, and what looks to be several thousand dollars later. Chrysler/Dodge should have done a recall on these engines.

Update from Apr 18, 2011: As an update to this complaint--it ended up taking over 6 weeks, after which I complained directly to the owners of the dealership. They put the shop foreman on it personally. The engine was so full of sludge that the timing chain would not stay adjusted, and the engine and oil lights would come on when it was tested. (I had always changed oil at 3,000 miles.) They found another 2.7 liter with 125,000 miles and offered to erase my past bill and install the newer engine for $1600. I took them up on it.

Intrepid 2.7L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 56,327 miles

Just had the oil changed two weeks ago and yesterday my car started making clunking noises. Took it into the local Dodge Dealer and was told that I needed a new engine. That diagnosis cost me $129.06. Took it to an independent shop where I was told that Chrysler had big problems with 2.7 liter V6 engines and that there was actually a class action lawsuit regarding these faulty engines. The technician also told me that to avoid sludge build it I would have had to change my oil at least every 2,000 to 2,500 miles maximum!!!! Now that is really a surprise to me!!! Oh well I guess I'll just have to walk (if I'm able) or take the bus as this amount of money is out of my price range, being that I am a 71 year old widow living on social security. Seems a shame that Chrysler doesn't feel that they have to take responsibility for their faulty engines. See you on the bus......Thank You Chrysler Corporation!!!!

SH*T !!! Now I really needed this crap... I bought my 2000 Dodge Intrepid 2.7L DOHC new. I took really good care of it too. Had alot of problems with it, but got them all fixed ( at least I thought I had...) But then with no warning, on the way home from work, the car stalls 3 times at stop light and threw the town. The engine smoked really bad too. Now come to find out, engine is blown and lots of sludge in it. Water in the oil. I can't afford to buy another car at this time. Wasn't Dodge Corp. bailed out by our Gov.?? Didn't help... Should have let them hit rock bottom and find out what it is really like then. They need to have to answer to the Government for this miss use of funds and sticking it to the American people. Assholes !!!! I will Never buy another Dodge car again... Husband called local salvage yard, They said they didn't need anymore pieces of crap dodges. Had over 30something already.. Nobody wants to touch a Dodge right now, Not even the dealerships. The best advise I can give to anyone looking for a car... Don't buy a Dodge. If anyone hears of a law suit let me know...

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN WITH NO WARNING, MY CAR JUST QUIT RUNNING. THE ENGINE HAD SEIZED UP AND I COULD HAVE BEEN IN A VERY BAD ACCIDENT. I HAD 2 DIFFERENT MECHANICS LOOK AT IT AND THEY BOTH STATE THAT IT NEEDS A NEW ENGINE, THEY COULD PATCH IT FOR AROUND 2000.00 BUT THEN I WOULD JUST BE BACK IN A FEW WEEKS OR SO NEEDING IT DONE AGAIN OR NEEDING A NEW TRANSMISSION.
I HAVE SINCE FOUND THAT THIS IS AN EXISTING MANUFACTURER MALFUNCTION IN THE WAY THAT THE ENGINE WAS MADE. I FEEL AS THOUGH DODGE IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND JUST CHOOSES TO DO NOTHING. NEEDLESS TO SAY I HAVE TO PURCHASE ANOTHER CAR AND IT WILL NOT BE A DODGE!!

Intrepid 2.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 35,000 miles

I purchased this Dodge Intrepid for my 87-year old Mother. It had 32,000 miles and I had it checked out by the local Dodge dealer who gave it his stamp of approval. It needed a rear-view mirror so I went to a local salvage yard. When they came out to look at it the first question was, “Does this have the 2.7L engine?” I thought that was a strange question when I was looking for a mirror but when I replied, “Yes”, they all chuckled and said we will see you soon. They told me about the 2.7L engine was junk. Then they took me out back and showed me a row of over 35 Dodge/Chrysler autos sitting there with blown 2.7L engines. I got the mirror and thought these must have been driven hard. My Mother is lucky to do the speed limit. It made me nervous enough to take it back to the dealer and have them flush the engine and replace the oil with synthetic and a 5 micron oil filter. When I picked up the car, a mechanic told me very quietly, “This won’t help.” He knew what I was trying to avoid. He said these engines are junk. I gave the car to my Mother and she was very happy, for about 1500 miles when the engine blew due to an “Oil Sludge” problem, so said the dealer. Text book. I ended up buying a kit to have a 3.2L installed. I still have the instructions and you can email me at tmneu@bright.net if you want them. I learned, before purchasing a auto, check with your local salvage yard; you can learn a lot from them! Another lesson; this is a known problem with Chrysler/Dodge 199x – 2000 2.7L engines. Chrysler will not do anything about it. So, I will never ever buy another Chrysler product.

What the hell!! So many of you have the same problem with this piece of crap. I thought this car would last for several more yrs seeing how I kept it maintained, oil changed every 3 months, check ups as needed. The body looks great and it still is very comfortable to ride in. Today the shocker came with I was told it needs a new engine and even that can't make it 100% good because there is a chance that another engine would have the same problem, if you could even find one. I wrote to Dodge but I'll see how far that gets me. Everyone needs to drop them an email and complain. This is awful and we all should be compensated for this mess. I am going to have to run it into the ground until I can make a decision on what to do. I guess I'm leaning towards buying a new car but first I have to hope the election goes my way and we get out of this crunch we are in. Complain everyone to Dodge who knows it might help!

After researching why my Intrepid was smoking from the exhaust, I took it to a Chrysler dealership who told me that I have the 2.7L engine that has the oil sludge defect. How disappointing!! After what I am reading, and since Chrysler won't step up and be responsible for this defect, Chrysler will not make a sale from me again. Also, I read that Chrysler said it was due to poor maintenance. We had the oil changed every 3,000 miles, and the car was mostly driven on the interstate. So, that is a poor excuse. John McCain and Barack Obama are saying that people need to be held accountable for their mistakes. Maybe they should audit Chrysler and enforce their idea!!!

Bought the car used it had 60,000 miles on it Aug 27, 2006. Engine had sever oil leak problem. The extended warranty didn't cover gaskets and seals. So I keep adding oil and did change oil about 3,000 miles like the owners manual states. 7 months later the routine starts check engine light comes on but goes out next day, heat blows cold air ( engine lost a gallon of antifreeze I add more)car stall couple of times, then the engine starts knocking. I drove it to the dealer, I had the extended warranty thought this should cover the repair I guessed wrong. It cost me $500 to have the engine tore down and find the failed part. Inspector found minor sludge say customer neglect claim denied unless I can produce receipts showing oil and filter. Well I never kept receipt so it cost me $2000 to get this paper weight fixed. I still owe 4 1\2 years of payments. I will never buy a Dodge again.

First let me begin by saying that I will never buy a Dodge again!
I was scammed, taken advantage of and overcharged when I purchased this vehicle 2.5yrs ago. I had just began teaching for a university and my car had been totaled so had to find a car fast. I was naive but I did not deserve to be sold a LEMON. After I purchased this car, I discovered that the salesman had neglected to tell me that the car had been wrecked and that the noise I was hearing when the car locks initiated was in fact a faulty car lock actuator. I then was told that I had purchased a car that had a faulty car engine and to get rid of it as soon as possible. However, I could not get rid of it and was advised to run a synthetic oil in the car and to change the oil on time. Now, 2.5 years since the purchase of my vehicle and only 2 car payments left the damn engine is failing! There is now oil sludge in the air uptake system and I have to get rid of the car TODAY. Does anyone know if there is in fact a class action lawsuit regarding this vehicle?

OK, bought this car in 2002 with 60K miles on it for about $9,000. Ran excellent for the most part, replace some type of rod for $600 a few years ago then all the sudden it started burning oil like crazy. Not a major prob just changed it a lil more frequently. The the air conditioner was leaking $2000 for a new one, major prob, mechanic said it would be cheaper to just put in a can of freon once a month in the summer,, so we've done that for a year or two. Then a few months ago it started idling really rough unless you held the brake and gas at the same time at about 1000 rpm. So took it in and they said my oil was leaking onto my spark plugs and made my plugs go bad, so they replaced them all at about $150.. Last week I was leaving work and it jerked really hard and the service engine light came on, so i pulled over, cut off the car and started it back up in a few minutes and it ran fine and the light was off. Then this morning on the way to work it died at a red light, I cranked it back up and pulled over on the side of the road where it died again. I sat there for five minutes and turned it on again, the service engine light was still on but it got me to work, about 5 miles up the road. Going to check on things at lunch today and see what now.. This vehicle is a money pit.. Unfortunately we are not in the position to purchase new now so we will continue repairing until we can afford something else. Beginning to wonder if it would be wise to just put in a new engine and see how many more miles we can get out of it like that...... Any suggestions appreciated...

This Dodge intrepid is the all time worst car ever built!! Chrysler/Dodge designed this car so people who buy them will never ever get ahead in life. Just 1 month after maxing out your credit cards to fix the most unreliable car known to man, you find yourself checking how much life saving you have because you now find yourself sitting on the side of the highway wondering why the biggest pile of monkey do do stopped running again. I must now phone CAA and get it towed home. Just to call the repair shop and get them to change the battery, a couple days later when going home from work the car will not start again. somebody blow up this car.

Chrysler/Dodge Intrepid sucks. I for one will never ever buy Chrysler/dodge again I will use public transportation then ever set foot in one of those vehicles again. and oh yeah all those Chrysler/dodge repair shops suck too, all they want to do is get the customer to pay, pay, pay for every single repair. what an absolutely crappy company(Chrysler). hire new engineers to build your cars.

We purchased a 2000 Dodge Intrepid not too long ago. My husband is a mechanic, we knew the car had engine problems. Boy, we weren't expecting all of this though. I've submitted several complaints, questions, what have you, to Dodge and Chrysler, with still no response. I figured that. They made a disposable car. They don't want to back up their product, admit fault, they're cowards. I found there's an ongoing law suit as we speak. Something needs to be done. Immediately. Dodge brags about their products, but for what? They're junk. I have owned and still own many dodge vehicles. I have not had any problems before this
My car had been running fine, smooth and quiet, until recently. I heard a knocking
noise when I started the engine initially. The next day the engine started to knock,
and I learned that my engine was on the verge of seizing up, so I would not have a
car anymore, because the engine would be no good to anyone. My son tole me to park my car in the garage until he could rebuild the engine. I was one of the fortunate ones, in
that I still have an engine to fix.

My husband and I have been die hard dodge fans, as we have had 2 caravans, 3
trucks, shadow (daughter), and all three of my children are currently driving neons.

I would appreciate any feedback from Chrysler on this matter.

Thanks, donnan

P.S. My engine is currently torn down, so my son can determine the parts needed
to get my car on the road.

It's no wonder that American car companies are going down the tubes. They always counted on the patriotic sentiment of the American people to get them by. So I guess it was only a matter of time people would stop buying the junk that they advertise as cars.
Imagine that: 80,000 miles and the engine is only good for a paper weight. No wonder Daimler is trying to sell off their acquisition. Once they had a chance to see what what goes on, quality wise, they started running for the door. There was a time a company stood by their product, especially after putting something out there that had a design flaw. I guess they are losing so much money these days that there is no room for good will gestures. The company I work for has supplied me with fleet automobiles, mainly from Chrysler for over 20 years. The only thing I could say is thank God I did not own those cars. Repairs for minor things like transmission, air conditioning, front suspension. So when everyone else is bringing in their cars for the same defects, this no longer becomes isolated cases.

I just bought my first European car, a 2006 Madza 3. One less customer Chrysler has to deal with.

Intrepid 2.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 102,000 miles

I have owned my 2000 Dodge Intrepid for almost two years now. I purchased it used off of a local dealer back in January of 2006. After dumping massive amounts of money into my first car (a 1993 Pontiac Grandam, although the money that I did put into that car was just routine repairs, but still it was costing me more money then I could afford) I decided that I needed a reliable car. After searching around for a few months I came across the Dodge Intrepid. I instantly fell in love with this car and knew it was the one for me. But little did I know almost 2 years later I would be replacing the engine.

I took great care of the car having the oil changed every three months like I was suppose to and just taking care of the car's general needs. I was actually scheduled to have my next oil change that coming Saturday. But before that could happen…I had just returned home for a weekend trip in Montreal and was heading into work, when I went to pull into a local coffee shop and the car just died. I tried to restart it but it wouldn't work. Meanwhile I'm tying up traffic in the middle of a busy intersection during the morning commute with people cussing and yelling at me to move my car. Thank god a couple of guys in a few cars around me jumped out and helped me push it into the local parking lot and that no one behind me hit me.
So I then had the car towed to my mechanic where at first he believes that its just a broken timing chain. But after a week of diagnosing the car, he tells me that the motor is completely shot and that in order to be able to drive the car again I will need to replace the entire thing. Which would cost me about 3,000 to 5,000 dollars for just the new motor alone and another 1500 for labor and parts. So I then ask him why does the motor need to be replaced he tells me because of a design flaw by Dodge when they built the car that causes the motor to fail and that I was lucky to get the car up to 102,000 miles.

I then had to decide what to do with the car - do I fix it or do I just junk it and get a new one. Well because I still owe a large amount on the car and the only way to get financing for a new auto loan was to trade it in (which no dealer wants to take a car with no engine). I had no choice but to have the car towed to my home where it would sit in the drive way for a few weeks while I decided what to do with it, while still making the monthly payments on it (this is what really pissed me off).

Lucky for me though I was able to, during this time, talk with my neighbor who is a mechanic to see what he thinks can be done with the car to put it back in working condition yet again. So, he then takes a look at it one weekend and comes up with the same problem that the original mechanic had…it’s the motor and it needs to be replaced, theirs nothing else he can do. So I had to come to a final decision fix the car or get a new one.

Well I of course decided to go down the road of fixing it because I still owe too much money on the car to do anything else. So after a couple of weeks of looking for a new motor for the car he was finally able to find one. But let me tell you they are not cheap 2000 dollars was the cheapest one I was able to get and that one has 80,000 miles on it already. The reason behind this I was told is because Intrepid motors are in such high demand due to the design flaw that causes them to break the price of them is through the roof, that is if you can even find one. I was told I got very lucky to get the new motor when I did. I’m hopeful that after this weekend the car will finally be back on the road after 2 months. I miss not having my own car.

Oh yeah I tried getting in touch with dodge to see if they had recalled this specific problem and they said, “No”, and that they did know about this specific problem but where not going to do anything to fix it. Which in my book is total BS why if you know about a problem that is costing people thousands and thousands of dollars are you not fixing it for the consumer, you're supposed to be a reputable business. I will never buy another dodge product knowing what I know now about the company.

We have had dodge loaner cars for our company for the last 3 yrs.Our first intrepid 2.7 quit running for a customer. We towed it in our shop to find that it had one or more fried bearings. that car is now a parts car. Our other intrepid loaner just done the same thing as we are installing a new short block as we were able to redo the heads. the oil ports in the motor run too close to the exhaust manifold which cooks the oil in return sludging up the oil. It is simply a poor designed motor. Hopefully the new 2.7 motors were built better as they are offered in the new dodge avengers and (fleet) chargers.I also heard of a class action lawsuit against chrysler. If this problem happens ,keep your oil change papers and get a lawyer. .The water pumps are bad for going out as well, and when they do they will leak antifreeze right into the oil pan, another awful design, change it at about 65,000 miles to be safe.

I bought my 2000 Dodge Intrepid used in July of 2006. I needed a car real bad and could not afford a new car because I have a totally disabled husband and partially disabled son. My husband only gets a small disability check and my son is almost totally dependent on me to provide the necessities. I thought I was getting a good deal on the Intrepid and got my mother and stepfather to loan me the money. I almost had it paid for when the car started shutting off on me while I was driving down the road. At first, It just did it a couple of times, so my son opened the hood and tightened the battery cables and checked the belts and other wiring to see if they were okay. It seemed okay for a couple of days but then as I was going to work on the 3 days, it shut off on me and I every time I would crank it, I could drive a few feet and it would cut off again. I had to have a wrecker to come get it and take it to the Dodge dealership. They kept it for a week and told me it was the wiring harness and they would fix it. I was charged $241.00 and they told me it was fine, that they had drove it all over town and had no problem. The next day after picking up the Dodge Intrepid from the Dodge dealship, it started doing the same thing, cutting off every few few. I had to have a wrecker come pick it up again and take it to the dodge place. The shop manager from the Dodge Place called me after checking it out and said it was the sensor, that they had disconnected it and it was fine, I could come pick it up. I got my son to take me to pick it up. I live about 15 miles from the Dodge place. I got about 10 miles from the Dodge place, when the thermostat started going up to the red and the smoke started coming out from under the hood. I pulled over to the side of the road. A friend of mine came by and stopped and raised the hood. He put water in the radiator and told me he would follow me home. I cranked the car and got about 2 miles and I heard a clicking sound, the car cut off and smoke started boiling out from under the hood. I got a mechanic to check it out and he said the engine had blew up. I am boiling mad because the Dodge dealership did not tell me I had engine problems or that there was many complaints concerning the engines in the Dodge cars. I think the Dodge manufacturers should have to pay back every penny to people that have bought the Dodge Intrepid and the engine has blew up. Mad as I can be, MaggieJ

We purchased the car with 17000 miles on it, I faithfully changed the oil yet my husband was driving to work and the sludge buildup caused the motor to seize and threw the timing chain through the motor destroying it. We replaced the faulty motor at our own expense. I contacted the better business bureau but they felt that my complaint should be with the carlot not dodge. I feel that dodge/chrysler know that they are putting out a faulty motor but continue to disregard their responsibility to the consumers that they have taken advantage of. I was told that originally the 2.7L came with an oil cooler on it, however when they decided to mass produce this vehicle for some reason they removed this neccesary piece of equipment at our expense. I had just paid this car off with my home equity not three months before it blew up and I certainly could not afford the new motor.

Back in June 2002, myself, the wife, daughter-in-law, and daughter headed out on a dream vacation in Florida. Eight hours into our trip we heard a knocking coming from the engine compartment. As we are going up an overpass, the vehicle loses all compression and rolled to a dead stop at the bottom. At this point the car would start but sounded horrible. We rented a car and continued our trip. I had to return to get the car with my truck and a tow dolly once I got home. The car would then sit for about 2 years and still making payments because the cost of the new motor was right at $4000.00. After doing plenty of research....it was determined that the catalytic converter was coupled too close to the engine causing the oil to be heated to an undesired temperature in which it would lose it's characteristics and no longer protect the engine. After replacing the engine with a used one (of course taking a chance) I have maintained the replacement, that was stated to have 70000 miles when I bought it, by using a synthetic blend of oil and changing the oil every 2000 miles. So far, at 97000 miles on the odometer I have had no engine trouble, but the transmission went out and the cooling fan burned up. I am a big Dodge fan and would hate to buy anything else, but with the problems I have had with this vehicle, I do believe I will be purchasing something other than Dodge for my wife and kids.

Bought car in 2001 with 20K miles on odometer. Drove for 6 years with no major problems. Odometer was at 81K miles. Regularly serviced as prescribed. WAS VERY HAPPY WITH VEHICLE UP TO THAT POINT. Had had many compliments on the car's appearance. Took vehicle into dealer for oil change and tune-up. Two weeks later, I was driving on a city street and heard clattering noise under hood. Engine shut down and oil light came on. Able to restart engine. A couple blocks later and it was KAPUT. Had towed to dealer. Diagnosis: problems with head gaskets, internal damage, needed new engine. Cost of repair was double the blue book trade-in value. Dealer offered no excuses and no apologies. No brainer for me. I dumped the vehicle as junk. Having read many of the other comments on this website regarding this 'oil sludge/engine design' issue and Dodge's response, I decided that I was fortunate because (a) it didn't breakdown on the interstate putting me in harm's way, (b) I didn't owe anything on the vehicle, and (c) I learned a lesson - 'beauty's only skin deep'. I would be very surprised if Dodge was even making cars three years from now.

I purchased 2000 intrepid about 6 months ago, with about 54,000 miles. Was driving on the highway and heard a ping, then knocking in the engine. Continued driving, hoping I could get to a repair shop when the car just died. Had to have the car towed and the mechanic said the engine was blown. Fortunately, I was not rear-ended on the highway (75 mph). Dodge refuses to take any responsibility for the problem. I've owned 5 Chrysler/Dodge vehicles but will never purchase another. Terrible customer service.

I had my Dodge Intrepid for month. I put a lot of money in my car. I had a auto start alarm worth $200 dollars. I also added me some 20 inch rims worth $2500 dollars. i was driving out of town for Easter weekend with my mother and my kids. While i was driving down the highway. I notice my cruise control went out. Then the next thing i got a loud knocking noise coming from my engine. I just got my oil changed before i hit the road. I had to get my car hauled in. Come to find out that I had all kind dirty sludge in my motor. I have my car still parked out of town in my aunt yard. I found out much as money i put in the car before it broke down. I will have to spend just as much money then that to fix it. I hope that we all can send a list of complaints and put this on the local news. Then get this to CNN. So that Chrysler Corporation can open their eyes and do a recall on these engines. But they rather take a big lawsuit. So if you interested in getting your local news and CNN involved. Please contact me at nupedallasmann@yahoo.com. So lets try to fix all of this.

Second time the same problem has happened. This happened once at 79,000 miles, and I had the engine replaced. I changed the oil every 3000 miles, except for one time I replaced at 3500 miles.

The Chrysler 2.7L engine has failed me twice - no other car I have owned has had a comparable problem even once.

This is our son's car. As he's in college we wanted him to have a good dependable car. He bought the car for $7000.00 in April 05 with 45000 miles on it. The engine blew this Feb with basically no warning. As the engine was toast and Dodge wanted about $5000,00 for a new short block, I started calling junkyards for a used engine. This was when I first heard that this is a chronic problem with 2.7's. We discussed just walking away but a large amount was still owed on the car, so, we rolled the dice. I found three possibly good engines and went for what sounded like the best with 50,000 mi. for $1500.00. The car it came out of had been hit in the rear, but the engine had been running fine. Another $1000.00 to change out the engine and back on the road... until last week when the oil light started coming on at stop lights... What the hell!!! This is crazy!!! oil problems! I guess getting oil around in an engine is a new concept, this internal combustion thing hasn't been around too long... I mean didn't Daimler(now Daimler-Chrysler) come out with their first car like in 1885 or something? I just can't belive this... I don't know what to do. It sure seems like Daimler-Chrysler should take some responsibility for all the people that have been screwed over with this.

I have multiple problems with this car. The most recent is my engine. I pull into my garage after a 15 minute trip to the store, I turn my engine off and as soon as i open the door I hear what only can be described as a faucet turning on, I look down and I see fluid pour out from under my car. It looked like a milk shake all over my garage. I call my mechanic, he comes to my house, He said " Girl your car is a piece of sh*t." He is my mechanic he should know. On this particular occasion my car did NOT overheat, my check engine light did NOT come on, I did NOT hear a knocking sound, I just see a thick, pink, oily liquid all over my garage. I am a single mom and that was my only vehicle. I still owe money on this car and the repairs are going to cost me more than what I owe the finance company. I'm extremely pissed and this isn't the first issue. I've replaced my brakes about 10 times in the past 6 months, Replaced my rotors 3 times , and replaced the calipers twice, this is some bullshit. Also had to replace the timing chains, my mechanic tells me that I pretty got screwed and I didn't enjoy not one bit of it. I loved my car so much and now I literally want to set that piece of sh*t on fire.. oh yeah told the finance company come get your car.... and shove it up your ass I'm not going to pay for a car I cant drive. Dodge / Chrysler and Mopar should do the rite thing a fix these problems, Your customers aren't millionaires. Dodge take your head out of your ass and admit these cars SUCK!

Well I bought the car when it had 53,000 miles on it and less than 2,000 miles later the check engine light came on and brought it in and they said it was a sensor.... fixed it and then less than a week later that happened again.... replaced second sensor then less than a week later the engine started ticking. We brought it to the dealer and they said we needed a new engine due to oil sludge build-up! It would be approx 4500-5000.00 to fix. Didn't have a warranty because we bought it from a person not a dealer or business. We let it sit in our driveway for months until my uncle who's an amazing mechanic took a look at it and said the engine was AWFUL! The bearings had spun into the engine and there was oil sludge build-up everywhere! He replaced the bearings and a few other inexpensive parts costing a total of 200.00 and cleaned it extensively. The car has been running fine ever since but ONLY USE FULL SYNTHETIC OIL CHANGES WITH THIS DODGE ENGINE.

Bought a nice looking Dodge Intrepid, thought I was getting a good deal. I had the car for about 6 months and a light tapping sound coming from the engine became a very loud knocking from engine. I took it to a mechanic and found out it had oil sludge. I had to pay 1,000 in labor and about 2,200 in parts and had the engine rebuilt. Car was in the shop for a few months as it took me a while to buy all the parts. I got the car back, it happened again, car completely stopped on freeway and car went back to the shop. Another few months and more parts and I have had it back for a couple of months now. No problems YET but who knows what the future holds for this Peice of junk. IT has definitley been a horrible experience so far.
