For those of you in California, I have filed a suit against Dodge/Chrysler for the issues with the vehicle being a lemon, Dodge's response was to offer me 6000.00 and to keep the vehicle and continue making payments, that was a slap in the face for a vehicle that is a death trap. Yes a death trap, had a complete break failure and ran off the road, lost control and spun backwards striking a buried boulder bending my exhaust pipe, this was at 19K miles. Right front break pads blew apart, towed into dealership, didn't work on it due to out of warranty and they stated it would be approx 1000 to fix it, took it to Midas, spent 400, replaced front rotors and pads, at 23K miles, brakes worn down to metal, took to Midas, said dodge problem, Dodge would not work on it stating it was Midas' issue. Got letter from Dodge to fix brakes after 100 deductible, they replaced front rotors and pads, 2 days(TWO DAYS LATER) brakes failed and ran through hwy interchange and almost got side swiped by a Big Rig. Pucker factor +20, taken back to Dodge and spent all day there and they stated they turned rotors again on the back rotors but when I went around to the service bays, the front rotors and back rotors were off and they were replacing the brake pads again. This needs to stop and the only way Dodge will do anything about it is for someone to be killed, it's not going to be me......

2009 Dodge Journey purchased new April 2009. Now the front rotors need to be turned, but because the Dodge Service Bulletin states not to turn the rotors it is recommended that we just replace both brake pads and rotors for the $100 deductible as it is covered under the Extended Warranty offered by Chrysler (barely by 2 weeks!). So that is replacement number 2 on the front pads in less than 3 years of owning the car!

Purchased my Journey in June 08 miles, by March 09 w/3400 miles I was replacing rusted rotors, by 1/2010 w/14.400 miles I was having them resurfaced and brakes replaced; by 9/2010 with 20,000 I was having them replaced again; by 1/2012 I had them replaced AGAIN.

I am so sick of this car its not funny. however in no financial position to buy new or used!! Although I have shelled out more than enough to afford a higher payment. I am in a battle with Chrysler right now, had a case number sent to the Lemon Law Dept and now the case rep was fired so it starts my case all over again!! And they want ME to fax them information they already have on their system! I can't stand it. I had to fight the first time around because they said they are not covered under warranty. Any person knows rotors do not go 4 x's in 4 years with 34,000 miles.

The rotors aren't the only issue read on:
09/25/2008 – 3,429 miles Grinding noise when turning left – BULLETIN from factory - Steering reservoir ordered
10/08/2008 – 3,855 miles Steering Reservoir replaced - was leaking
11/25/2008 – 4,580 miles Squealing left rear - E-Brake cables rubbing on bracket replaced both
03/20/2009 - 7,331miles Squealing - Right Rear rotor was rusted and replaced
11/10/2009 - 12,834 miles Suspension issue (?) Fluid Level sensor replaced on 11/09
01/18/2010 – 14,455 miles Squealing from wheels – Replaced brake pads and resurfaced rotors
09/10/2010 – 20,718 miles Vibration rear rotors resurfaced
03/22/2011 – 25,551 miles RECALL
01/03/2012 – 33,280 miles Wiring harness replaced – RECALL issues
01/03/2012 - 33,280 miles Drivers side power door locks not working – found open circuit replaced master switch

02/29/2012 – 34,700 miles loud squealing - rear rotors and pads replaced

Can we all just say LEMON!!!!

PULSATIONS WHEN BRAKING AGAIN. 19,248 MILES LATER THAT THE LAST ISSUE. NEEDED TO HAVE THE ROTORS TURNED TO RESURFACE, MY COST THIS TIME. REALLY TIRED OF THIS BRAKE AND ROTOR PROBLEM. CONSIDERING THE POSSIBILITY OF GETTING SOMETHING ELSE EVEN THOUGH I LIKE MY JOURNEY. WHATS TO SAY THAT ANOTHER 15,000-20,000 I WILL BE FACED WITH THE SAME REPAIRS PLUS REPLACING THE BRAKE PADS YET AGAIN. NOT HAPPY AT ALL.

Oh hell...What a lemon my 2009 is beginning to be. My friend noticed the rear rotors had deep grooves in them and told me to bring it into shop and get them fixed. Well they did replace them and brakes or so they told me. Not long after I had them replaced the same problem has begun again and this time I hear a squeaking sound when brakes are applied. Mind you I had them replaced close to the 12,000 limit and now I I have 14,000 and some on it. The shop just gives me the run around claiming the grooves won't affect anything..I am a woman, please tell me what step I should do next.

I am a retired Chrysler employess and have driven their products for years, but now with this crap I am thinking of trading it in and crossing the street.

Replaced rotors again at 52,000 miles. Assumed, this time, that aftermarket rotors weren't up to snuff as they warped soon after they were put in service. Purchased "Best Quality" Wagner Rotors buy they too started shaking after the first trip (>200m.), and then shake consistently after 2000 miles.

I called Dodge Customer Assistance and was told that due to the mileage on the car, and because I was not the first owner, NO ASSISTANCE could be rendered. As much as I *love* this car, and America, it will be the last Chrysler product I'll ever buy.

Read the complaints. They know the sweep area of the pads isn't adequate, they know the brakes are unsafe and they're still not going to fix it. NTSB.GOV should issue a recall on these cars/ brakes and make Chrysler put the upgraded calipers that are on the 2010/11 models. How can they get away with this. No wonder they're insolvent. No wonder why Daimler Benz dropped them. Guess it only makes sense that they're now part of Fiat. The only car company that makes bigger JUNK.

Like other people here was told the problem was found during an oil change and that we needed a brake job. It must have been the way we drove the car and rode the brakes. Clear Lake Dodge refused to fix the problem but did tell us the car was not safe to drive. If we refused to have them fix the brakes then they could not be held responsible if something happened. They did give us an 800 number to call. Upon getting a call back from Chrysler corp. they would fix the brakes for $50 dollars. Taking the car back, Clear Lake again refused to fix the brakes saying the pads did not exhibit enough wear. Again taking the car home, 2 days later all the lights came on(ABS,anti-skid) and when they were called told us to drive the car in under these conditions. After getting there, they told us it would be $100 dollars to fix the brakes. Who were they kidding! Refusing to pay, they again told us they would not be responsible if we took the car home. Finally after calling the 800 hotline, they took the car in and fixed the brakes for $50.

bought this in nov 2009, by Jan 2010 and only putting 3000mi on it, front brakes and rotors shot/dealer split cost because it was purchased as a demo with 6000mi already on it. (some kind of inspection should have been done before selling it to me.)---- now at 12000.00 mi rear brakes went------I was never told anything about the rotors being of need to be resurfaced. Pep Bpys just installed rear brakes/ now at 21000.00 i need rear rotors----what a joke. to top it all off, my inspection is due in 03/10 and UNFORTUNATELY I CAN ONLY TAKE MY CAR TO GARY BARBERA'S RIP OFF SERVICE CENTER. who said must replace the front brakes or it will not pass inspection. I go to get them done, and i havve the report and it says no ft brakes needed.

I drive a 2009 Dodge Journey and with just 10,000 kms of city driving it has given me problems with very premature brake wear including problems with the booster kits. Just recently I had an unusual knocking sound in the steering column and suspension and it's very annoying because you can hear it even with a hefty volume from the radio. The problem here in the Philippines is that we only have one authorized service center here that apparently doesn't know how to fix this worthless piece of "S". Well what can I say?? I'll take a "kalesa" than any of these car brands any day....

This is my second complaint on the same 2009 Dodge Journey. I had to replace the front brakes at 22K for a cost of $325. A couple of months later, I took the car on a long road trip and noticed a shimmy when under hard braking or braking on a steep grade. I was a little worried so I took the car in for an inspection. The dealer told me that the rear rotors need to be placed. The pads were OK but the rotors were shot. First the fronts at 22K now the rear brakes at 27K. Come on, this has to be a design problem. I'm out over $500 for brakes and I haven't turned 30K. There's no way I can keep this car for several years.

I heard a scraping and immediately headed to a brake shop. They told me they could not turn the rotors as there was not enough material to begin with. Dodges do not have "squealers" to warn you when the pads are getting low.....$.02 cents cost me over $360.00 dollars. Sorry I did not buy the Acadia.......

My 2009 Dodge Journey is only 16 months old and needed the break pads and rotors fixed. We were told it is a "normal wear and tear" problem, but since trolling the web, have found NUMEROUS complaints from other Journey owners about this problem. I guess we should feel blessed that we got 29000 miles on it before they needed to be replaced - as we found some owner complaints that they had to be fixed in as low as 5000 miles. Maybe Dodge needs to realize that people purchase NEW cars because they do NOT want to deal with the cost and hassles related to repairs like this... brakes and rotors replacement on a car less than a year and half old... seriously, that is the quality they expect us to accept! I don't know how to do it, but I sure hope someone reading this, knows how to pursue getting this car recalled!

I recently traded in my Volvo S60 for a 2009 Dodge Journey because I was impressed by the vehicle's features and it was better suited for my family's needs (mainly, more room). After less than 10 months, my brakes began grinding. The car had only 3 miles when I drove it off the lot, and now it has just shy of 18,000 miles. Something was clearly not right. I owned my Volvo for four years and only replaced the brakes once.

Unfortunately, I could not bring the Journey to the same dealership where I had made the purchase to present this issue, as I have recently moved from Massachusetts to Florida. New vehicle warranties are honored nationwide, so I found a local dealership to bring the car to. Their brake inspection revealed that my front brake pads were 80% worn and should be replaced very soon, and that my rear brakes needed new brake pads AND rotors immediately. Of course, since I had more than 12,000 miles on the vehicle none of this expense was covered by warranty. When I raised my concern that this could not possibly be "normal wear" considering how new the vehicle was, they told me that it was extremely common in the Dodge mini-vans and that apparently it was going to be the same with the Journey. This was not very comforting to hear, since the I, the consumer, was placed with the burden of paying for this expensive repair. If this is a "common" problem, wouldn't you think that they would recall the brake parts, or at least discount the price of your first repair? Something should be done to show that Dodge/Mopar is making a good faith effort to rectify this situation. But I was informed that would not be likely.

The service manager also told me that since I came from the North, my rotors were very rusted and weather damage is also not covered under warranty. Now, I cannot fault this Southern-native for his thinking, however I have lived in Massachusetts my entire life, and it is impossible for rust this extensive to form after only one winter. Typically it would take years for auto parts to corrode the way my brand new rotors have. He also mentioned that short distance driving must have worn my brakes down more quickly than usual. The only reason why I already have 18,000 miles on the vehicle is because I commuted 80 miles per day (all highway) for work, and then traveled 1,200 miles (clearly, all highway) to relocate to Florida. These excuses are an obvious avoidance of taking accountability and responsibility for an extremely low quality product.

Needless to say, I left the dealership very disappointed and feeling rather vengeful. I obviously needed to have the repair work done right away, since it was a safety hazard to drive with the brakes in that condition. I decided, however, that I would not give my business to Dodge since in my opinion they were clearly responsible for this defective product. So, I brought the vehicle to several other brake repair shops, and all of them told me the same thing - since the vehicle was so new, none of the auto-parts dealers even carried the rotors to complete the repairs. The parts would need to be placed on order from a factory, and would likely take at least a week to receive. Ironically, Mopar is the only retailer that has the rotors available for immediate delivery, and they only distribute their parts to Dodge Service Departments. Talk about a conspiracy...

I have never used an online forum to complain about a service or product in my life, but I really felt strongly that my voice needed to be heard regarding this issue. Dodge should not be manufacturing a product that is so poor in quality, especially considering the price of this vehicle. I did not purchase a used Kia for $4,000 - I purchased a brand new $26,000 American vehicle and NEVER expected to be sinking this much money into it within the first year. This is simply unacceptable, and I will absolutely be trading this vehicle in as soon as possible and will NEVER buy another vehicle from Dodge or its affiliated companies (Chrysler, Jeep, etc.). My business will go back to Volvo, which although is more expensive, is worth every penny because of the quality and customer service they offer to their consumers.

For reference, the cost of this repair was $359 for the back brakes, and $195 for the front. If I have to replace the brakes every 10 months for the term of my auto-loan, I will be paying an additional $3,850 for this vehicle. That is absolutely disgusting.

After a computer failure within two weeks of the purchase, and 4 days without use, the vehicle now has worn out front brakes at 22,000 miles. The rear brakes are fine! (how can that be?) I am suspicious of the computer that controls ESP, Anti-lock, etc....Dodge's web site says (in three different paragraphs) that "the computer" will apply brakes to control the vehicle....so isn't the computer the problem now? Dodge would not honor thier warranty, as brakes are "consumable" and only covered in the first 12,000 miles (Great "bumper to bumper" warranty there) The rotors and pads are soft...great safety there...and what about the Federeal Motor Carrier standards and ANSI?...a direct violation of motor vehicle safety. I will not allow the Dodge dealership to make the repair...I'll find an ASC certified mechanic to make the repairs. I can get a 60,000 mile warranted brake pad set from CarQuest, but, of course, the rotors are "dealer only"...I smell a big fat rat. Dodge would not offer a warranty on their "brake repair"....so no go there. Iwill fix this hunk of crap and sell it as fast as I can. I will never buy another Dodge again, or any American auto for that fact...to many cafe' standards and not anything Americans want to buy.
