Journey 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission

The car is a push button start after you push in the brake pedal, keyless. Drove to the store and came out minutes later. The brake was all the way down and could not go much more. I pushed the start button and it just stuttered like a starter problem. Battery was fine and everything else worked. Windows, lights dashboard, locks etc. So it was not a battery problem.

After sitting for a tow truck for four hours the battery died and would not hold a charge. A good Samaritan gave me a jump, didn't work. Had it towed to the dealer and they said they didn't know what happened first the battery or the tipm. The starting problem happened about two weeks before but it started after a few minutes.

The dealer tells me the tipm is shot and the battery is dead. Have to replace both for total of 912.78. How there isn't a fuse to keep the whole computer system from being fried I don't know. So I Googled the module and found this site and a long history of Dodge problems with the computer. 19,000 miles and 3 years and 6 months later. The warranty ran out 6 months ago. The new module is warrantied for one year or 12,000 miles. No more Dodges or Chryslers.

I purchased this vehicle 2015 Dodge Journey 12/8/17. 5 weeks later vehicle not starting. Called dealer, car towed. Stayed at dealer 5 days. They found no problem. They did an extensive check on battery, everything is good. 1 week later vehicle not starting again. Towed again to dealer, no problem found. On 2/24/18 car dead, nothing coming on; lights, engine, nothing. Again towed to dealer. On 3/2/18 I picked up vehicle. On 3/23/18 vehicle not starting AGAIN. At this point I AM PISSED OFF! This vehicle is at the dealer more than it is in my driveway. What can I do at this point?

Journey R/T 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission

My keyfob would not work at all. The car would say key not detected. I had to press the keyfob into the button to get the car started. Once I got home, which is 15 miles away, I noticed the TPM sensors were only reading 1 tire pressure. The others were reading "---". The keyfob battery's were replaced on both keyfobs to make sure that was not the issue but it didn't help. I disconnected the battery to reset the computer and the keyfobs started to work correctly. I drove the car a few miles and the TPM sensors started to read.

It started with the radio not wanting to turn on. The car was running and I was at a drive through. I tried to turn on the radio but it didn't not want to turn on. So I turned off the car, hoping the radio just needed to be reset. Well it didn't turn on and neither did the car! The gauges would act as if the car was ready to start but the engine would not turn when you pressed the start button. The wipers started wiping on their own, the door chime kept going on and off, it wouldn't recognize the key, the lights in the dashboard started going crazy. I then had to push the car out of the way. Meanwhile the lights are still going crazy, and nothing will turn off. So I had to disconnect the battery. It was bitterly cold and it was an extremely unpleasant time. To top it off, I really love this car, I've owned it for less than 2 months. This really sucks!

On Wednesday prior to the total keyless entry system failing my wife saw a warning on the center indicator panel stating that the keyless entry system needed servicing so I was going to take it in for it's first oil change at 5,000 miles anyway so I brought it in and mentioned that the warning had come up and was told by service that they would check it while they had the car for the oil change. When I picked it up later in the day I was told that the technician cleared the fail code but this is not reflected on my service papers which show "no trouble found". So for the next few days everything seemed back to normal until on Sunday June 28th we packed the car for a vacation to North Carolina from NY. well the car was loaded with luggage, video players, snacks, water bottles etc and we proceeded to get ready to leave. I put my foot on the brake, hit the start button and was promptly notified that the key fob was not recognized, Ugh! Then I tried again, this time the car just up and died! ,no lights only the weak sound of the horn for the next three hours until the battery was completely dead. Since it was a Sunday the dealers' service dept was not open nor did anyone answer the phone at Brown's Jeep and Chrysler of Patchogue,NY. We needed to go because it was also our grandson's summer vacation with us so we hunted for a rental car ($680.00),which we ironically found at a local airport. On Monday my wife who had stayed behind and later took a flight ($300.00) down after waiting for the Road Service and the tow. Brown's had our car for almost three weeks with little or no communication with us and this being the second event, third's a charm and a bonified Lemon Law contender. So far this is probably the worst car we have ever owned!
