Journey Crossroads 2.4L L4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 9,288 miles

I was in the car with my pregnant wive, and my two boys (4 and 5). I was on capital Blvd in Raleigh taking the i440 ramp onto the main highway. As I decelerate to take the ramp the car stalled out, locking my steering wheel, brakes were non responsive.

I don't know if you guys are familiar with that ramp but it's it has a very bad curve and traffic on I-440 is terrible. So imagine me trying my hardest to pull the steering wheel to the right to make it down the ramp trying to hit the brakes to slow down and the car not wanting to. With cars behind me and fast cars on the highway! Let me tell you I never been more pissed off in my life!

This is a new car! Only reason it has 9k miles on it is because of my 3 trips to NJ but that's the reason I bought this thing. Now you need to tell me now I have to constantly worry about this happening again? Worse yet happening to my wife who wouldn't have the strength to pull the wheel? With my kids in the car? You got to be f*ing kidding me. I want answers! Why is this happening and what is Dodge going to do about it?

I was lucky I didn't go in the ditch there and flip the car! I was lucky I didn't get rear ended. I was lucky yes but I'm still pissed off.

Furthermore I was told by road side assistance it was going to be 50 mins to get a tow truck on site. It took 3 hours! Thanks

I called filed a complaint with Chrysler / Dodge. Car is at the dealership now. Not sure how things are going to go but you better believe I will not drive that out of that parking lot unless it's on paper that car is save to drive or you better believe I will sue the sh*t out of that place and you better believe they will be changing their name to Dorian Chrysler Dodge and Jeep!

Journey 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,920 miles

While driving my 2015 Dodge Journey, currently at 7920 miles, my engine stalled on a ramp at 40 MPH. I lost all control of my car as the steering wheel locked and my brakes were also gone. Lucky my mom helped me pull the steering wheel to the far right avoiding a collision that could have been a disaster. The car slid to a full stop on the side ramp.

I have 3 kids and I am terrified of driving this car. The dealer can't find the problem and have had my car for 5 days. They stated that they test drove my car however they only drove the car 5 miles in 5 days. I am simply disgusted.

Journey AVP 2.4L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,108 miles

While driving home on Thursday, 6/18/2015, my 2015 Dodge Journey (which only had 2,108 miles on it) died while decelerating to turn into my neighborhood. Praise God, no one was behind me and I had to crank the wheel to pull over to the side of the road as the power steering also died. There were no warning signs, indicators, lights, etc. I put the car in park and hit the Start button and it started right up.

I immediately called the dealership and told them I would be bringing it to them in the morning. They have now had my car for 5 days and couldn't find any error codes in their computer when running diagnostics and "can't reproduce the stall". They are keeping it for a few more days to "put more miles on it to see if they can reproduce it".

He also said they have a call into their corporate engineers and are waiting to hear back from them.

I told the service manager at the dealership that this was a KNOWN issue with the T.I.P.M. (Total Integrated Program Module) on older model vehicles and that the same exact problems were occurring. He claimed that this defect is on older models 'only' and couldn't possibly be the problem.

I asked him what they were going to do if they could not reproduce the issue. He said if they can't reproduce it, they are making some updates to the car's computer system and will return it to me and basically just hope it doesn't happen again.

One website that reported this EXACT issue on older model Dodges (various makes/models) is: http://www.chryslerproblems.com/problems/200-engine-dies-while-driving.shtml . The report shows my exact situation! Engine dies when decelerating, no warning indicators, once key is turned to off, it restarts, diagnostics at the dealership showed no computer codes indicating failure.

This is very disconcerting that they plan to just return my vehicle to me without knowing what caused it and aren't sure if it's fixed. I don't even want to drive it anymore if this ends up being the case. There were deaths reported due to the defective T.I.P.M. and a class action law suit was filed.

The website listed above does indicate that their is a patch for this issue and I will be asking the service manager if he applied this patch to the computer system. Which means if he did, then he knows that it's the T.I.P.M. and just didn't want to say so.

I'm very concerned and distraught over this issue.

Update from Jul 29, 2015: Update: My car was at the dealership shop for 10 days and they were never able to reproduce the issue or find any error codes. They updated the car's computer system in 'hopes' that it would fix the problem. Two days after getting my car back, it started doing weird things. It would randomly turn the rear air on and would tell me I had an accessory on after turning the car off but no accessory was on.

I went back to the dealership and asked to speak to the general manager. He said I could lodge a complaint through corporate, but I would have to be the 'squeeky wheel' as it is very hard to get them to do anything. He really listened to my concerns thougha and after figuring out what the best way to help me would be, he worked with me to get into a different 2015 Dodge Journey! I did have to pay taxes on the depreciation, which ended up being $400 which was WELL worth it to get out of a potentially unsafe vehicle. My hats off to the GM at that location as he did not have to help me out.

I am now almost 1900 miles into this new vehicle and so far, it has given me no issues (knock on wood....).
