Ram 1500

  • 50,000 miles
Dodge Ram 1500 pickups have two expensive/serious problems. (1) the air-conditioner evaporators under the dash fail and (2) the dash itself cracks in several places, so when the ac repairs (involving dash removal) take place, the mechanic tells you he/she has to also replace the dash...which is true. Many many complaints of dash cover failures in Dodge Ram 1500 and other similar vehicles. Repairs run $1200 or more. Dash should be a recall item.

I drive a 2000 Dodge Ram and the dash is falling apart. It started with a little crack and has become a huge problem. I talked to Dodge and they said there was nothing they could do for me. It seems that many other people are experiencing the same problems.

The dashboard is cracked and caving in. There are large pieces of the dash just crumbling. I have read hundreds of complaints by other consumers with the same problem. Obviously a factory defect with cheap plastic. Dodge states the dash is "upholstery" and is not covered under any warranty.

Ram 1500 8-cyl

  • 24,000 miles
Dash developed cracks after second year after purchase, one above air bag chamber, and the other above speed meter.,and eventually fractured into multiple parts during the following years.. decided to remove it, as parts were falling down into the empty space under the dash top, and making rattling noises. This material is defective. Internet sources, television news broadcasts site thousands across country having same issues. Why has no recall been performed on this defective product? the risks of possible injury, from moisture from leaks or other sources could cause interference with electrical circuits. I will take steps to replace this dash myself, with suitable protection, as the manufacturer has not showed any concern towards its customers, or offered a solution. Buying the same kind of dash, made of the same defective material is not the solution, as many have done this, and have the same issue.

I have a 2000 Dodge pickup 1500 and my dashboard is crack, large pieces have broken off. Wire, air vents and other items are exposed in the open and to the sun. I have experience problems with my air condition and radio speakers. I noticed that my dashboard had cracks 5 years ago, I called and email Dodge to informed them of my situation, but they had no recalls and no manufacturing defects that been reported for this problem. But I researched the internet and found many websites stating their concerns and issues with their dashboard on Dodge pickups. I hope this problem can be resolved and that Dodge will take responsibility and acknowledge their mistake with the dashboard for Dodge pickups.

Cracked dashboard on my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 - apparently due to inferior materials being used in Dodge's dashboards, and which they refuse to fix due to it "not being a safety issue". I disagree, someone could be seriously injured by sharp plastic shrapnel during an airbag deployment. Mileage and warranty status of affected trucks should be irrelevant as this is a manufacturing defect.

The upper dash on my 2000 Dodge truck started cracking. The vehicle has been garaged ever since new and very rarely taken out during daytime. Mostly at night. Heat and sun are not to blame. Vehicle has only 52,000 miles on it. This vehicle is babied. I am the original owner.

Ram 1500 4WD 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles
I purchased a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 new in 2000. At 50,000 miles the dash began to crack at 2 yrs old. Although I purchased an extended warranty to 75K miles, I was informed by a dealer that trim and upholstery was not covered. Now the dash has completely failed, a huge hole has emerged, it rattles this has caused the defrost vent not work properly and possibly the passenger airbag may be compromised due to the dash becoming unsecure because the plastic has broken from around the screws. I recently went to another dealer to get a quote of over $1000 to repair. The dealer tells me that Chrysler has been fixing these trucks if the original owner still owns it regardless of warranty expiration. Because of the product failure. So I then call the 800 number given only to be told that it is basically too late now because my truck is 8 yrs old. This was hard to swallow because I tried to repair it under my extended warranty when only 2 yrs old. I am very, very dis-satisfied with the product and service of Chrysler Corp. I know that there are literally thousands of have experienced the same problem and I look at every truck the same body style as mine, and they all have cracked dashes. I went online to find several websites of Dodge owners with the same problem with warranty and service. This is a factory defect that Chrysler should at least offer a substantial amount of assistance with the repair or lower the cost of the parts to repair so that people can afford them.

I own a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 and the dash in this vehicle has completely fallen apart. It started with some cracks but now has entire pieces falling off of it down into the floor boards. It is going to make this vehicle illegal to drive on the road unless daimler Chrysler recalls these vehicles to be fixed, as this is due to cheap materials not holding up.

Ram 1500 8-cyl

  • 89,000 miles
Dash on my 2000 Ram 1500 began with a hairline crack. Four years later the entire dash has caved in. I see this as a major safety concern as my children ride with me every day. I am concerned with the pieces flying during an accident or the air bags being compromised. The pieces are very sharp and could injure one of my children severly in a crash. With the amount of complaints about this problem, I am surprised the government has not taken the time to look deeper into this issue.
