When I purchased my Dodge truck in 2012 the car lot where I bought it had used some kind of glue and tape on the dash it had every small crack. About 3 months later while driving down the road piece of dash fell out under my feet. Small pieces fell out several more times then bigger pieces started coming lose. I had to pull over and remove most of the dash in pieces. Now windshield is cracked my mechanic say its because of the dash being busted up like it is, that caused my windshield to crack.

The dash board has shattered and fallen into the vehicle. Pieces of the dash fly out at you when you turn the fan on. The pieces of the dash are allover the floor and get into everything. If we ere to be in an accident the air bags would come straight out the top and hit the windshield. The dash board provides no support to the vehicle and would not help anyone in the front seat if they were to be in an accident..

In March of 2003 I was involved in a fairly high speed collision head on with a older style Ford Bronco. My vehicle is a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 sport edition. I was cited for failure to maintain my vehicle at a safe distance, and hit the "broken down" Ford Bronco with the nose end of my vehicle into the rear end of his vehicle at roughly 50 miles per hour. Unfortunately my air bags did not deploy. As I do understand that you need to hit certain spots on the vehicle to cause a reaction in the airbags, I assumed I did not activate the sensors, even though I hit the vehicle square on and my entire front end was buckled back roughly a 1'2" in (totaling in $9,600 in repairs at 30,000miles). However, in a more recent incident, August 2007 I was out of town on business and again sustained front end damage to the front end of this same vehicle (2000 Dodge Ram 1500) and again my airbags failed to deploy. In both events I was buckled in properly and experienced minor injuries, but I'm wondering why they never deployed. They fixed this vehicle again for whatever reason, and I no longer feel safe driving it. Unfortunately for me, I'm a college student without adequate funds to purchase a new vehicle, and my job as a technical consultant for a industrial company requires that I work within a 400 mile radius. What can I do to ensure my own safety in this vehicle that apparently doesn't utilize the airbags on impact?

I am the owner of a 2000 Dodge 1500 pickup and soon after the warranty expired the dash began to get cracks all over it. The cracks became larger and larger and spread and spread until they became holes! large pieces have broken off, and in the event of an accident, I wonder how safe it would be to have these sharp pieces of plastic flying around for a person(even a child perhaps)to get cut with or even killed! a small cut in the correct spot could leave a person to bleed to death. The cracks have moved to the area of the passenger air bag and I am also concerned that if deployed, the bag could be effected by them or vise versa. I have to ask myself, what kind of manufacturer would want that to happen even after they are aware of the situation. Does their responsibility to the consumer really end after the warranty expires? I don't think so. People trust these companies to provide a safe and reliable product and when it doesn't work out that way, we need the support of the federal government to step in and take action any way that they can. Now one might say I am only a tiny voice in a big world, but "oh cont-rare", this is a common problem. I work for the federal government and would estimate that out of about 350 personnel at my office at least 15 of them own this model of truck and many of them have the problem. Also we use these vehicles at work and the same thing happened to them, but they didn't seem to have any problem getting them fixed(I wonder if for free). I just want Dodge to stand behind their product and keep the safety and well being of their customers in mind. I have waited for a while before complaining because I hoped that they would recall the item. I did call Dodge and after being transfered several times I spoke to the recall department and they took my information.
