problem #2

Apr 251998

Ram 1500 SLT 5.9L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 165,350 miles

I was on my way to Salt Lake City, Utah from Bakersfield, California We made it as far as Nephi, Utah when this transmission failed. The pick-up was empty so there should have been no load on it to speak of. The distance traveled was about 700 - 750 miles from home. This failure happened about a year after having this tranmission rebuilt, so no luck from the rebuilder on the first rebuild as far as warranty, etc. I also have a 1999 Dodge Durango with shifting problems -similar if not the same transmission. I can tell you, from the experience i've recently had with Dodge transmissions, they are'nt in the running for my next vehicle. Probably will go with a Toyota Tundra or other foreign make. I don't have much faith left in the American Companys -since they're now Govt. owned.

Ram 1500 V8 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 59,350 miles

The radiator wasnt big enough to cool the transmission- that's what started the problem. Replacing the radiator was the only way they would warranty the transmission.
