Started hearing a whining noise and then vibrations, which luckily from my past experiences, I thought to be a U-Joint going out, so I slowed down and started to pull off the road when the front of the drive shaft fell out and started banging the road. As I was coming to a stop the rear end locked up and the tires started sliding like I had slammed on the brakes. If I had been going faster this would of caused me to wreck or flip the vehicle and I might be dead right now. I had it towed to a shop and they told me that the rear end had completely came apart and the pinon gear had jammed in the other gears or something like that.

I ran over a large flywheel in the road and my brakes were squealing so i took it into a local mechanic. He checked out the brakes and said he would look at other stuff. He found filings in the rear end and recommended i take it to dodge. The rear axle was also bent but that was my hitting the Fly wheel in the road that flipped up and wedged between the road and my axle. This truck is cursed.

We were leaving for Memorial day weekend to go camping and we broke down 2 hours from home. I had to leave my trailer on the side of the road for a couple of days. When i got the truck into dodge they said i had the wrong oil in the rear end for towing. The rear end had been rebuilt by dodge 2 months earlier and they didnt even ask me about the different types of oil. Since i purchased the truck with a tow package on it you would think the morons who sold me the truck would have put the right oil in the rear end.

I've contacted Dodge several times about my rear axle going out, it cost me over 1,000 to fix it the first time, and to replace the rear universal joint for a second time. Now I'm approaching the same problem, with a squeal when I pull away, chattering when I drive, and loud ticking when I accelerate. Several other issues are present, I'll be listing those in other complaints.

My first attempt to have Dodge resolve this issue amounted to an E-Mail response of "Discount Oil Changes and Tire Rotations", which was pathetic. After resending the E-Mail the next day, I received the "We're not doing anything about it" E-Mail.

Now I've filed a complaint with the NHTSA at http://www.safercar.gov and I've messaged Dodge again informing them that several newspapers will be contacted, and that a class-action lawsuit is imminent. Hopefully I get this resolved quickly and professionally.

The speedometer cable broke out of the housing so I took it to the dealer. It had only been driven 4K miles since changing the fluid 3 weeks earlier. I dropped it off at the dealer and they called me later explaining that the rear end was shot. I went down to look at it and they showed me all the broken parts and explained that the warranty would not cover it because the fluid had never been changed. I explained that it had been and they pretty much said I was wrong. I had my office fax service records to the dealership while I was there and they agreed to to "See what they could do." They called later and agreed to replace "This one item" but that they probably wouldn't cover anything else. When I picked it up the service manager told me that I was "Lucky" that they covered it because they shouldn't have. I guess that's the new Daimler warranty attitude I've heard so much about.

I don't know how the new rear end did. I was so hot I literally drove to the Chevy dealer we buy our work trucks from and traded it in that day. I didn't trade because of the product. I traded because of service.

Took it in for a 30K checkup and they told me the entire rear differential shelled due to some broken bearings. It was covered under warranty, luckily. Missed out on a $1200 bill
