Ram 1500 Quad Cab 5.9L Diesel

  • Manual transmission
  • 117,430 miles

The fuel lift pump in the fuel tank failed and caused the injector pump to fail. I was told at a Dodge dealership in Northern California where I had it checked when I began having problems that it is a common problem on Dodge trucks with the Cummins diesel engine between 1998 and 2002. The service manager said that without the lift pump supplying enough diesel to the injector pump the injector pump does not receive enough lubrication and it fails and you lose power because fuel supply is reduced. The injector pump replacement through Dodge is about $3,000.00. There should be a law suit against Dodge because of this!

Ram 1500 SLT 5.9L Diesel

  • Automatic transmission
  • 120,000 miles

this is the 4th time in 2 years that the lift pump has gone out and ruined the injector pump. the last time it was fixed the repair shop installed an indicator light on the dash to warn of pump failure. the problem is, by the time it came on and I could stop the engine, the injector pump was gone too
