Ram 1500 ST 3.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,200 miles

I recently discovered a consistent leaking from my vehicle. After a few days it revealed itself to be a power steering problem when I heard the moaning and groaning at every turn. Further investigation led to the discovery of the leak coming from the power steering reservoir, apparently within the bracket assembly where the reservoir is attached to the power steering pump.

Dodge, in their infinite wisdom, attached the power steering reservoir with the head of the screws turned inward where they are inaccessible due to the clutter of other engine parts. Now, it seems I would have to remove the power steering pump and the various other parts blocking access to the pump, just to repair or replace a cracked reservoir. This all could have been avoided by simply having the head of the connecting screws facing outward for easy accessibility, but I guess the job security of Dodge mechanics paramounts any owner's ability to work on their own vehicle.
