Ram 1500 LX 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission

just paid the truck off. I've always changed the oil at 3000 miles and yesterday I lost all oil pressure. Friend says that its the oil I had put in but after reading on this site I'm not sure.

Ram 1500

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,000 miles

About 6 weeks after a routine oil change the oil pressure started dropping to 0, engine lights all came on, finally shut down. Truck restarted without any real problems, but the drop in oil pressure happened 3 more times within a 4 mile range from my home. Parked the truck, and haven't been able to use it since. Mechanic finally said it would most likely require a new engine, as there are metal shavings now in the oil. This truck had consistent oil changes every 3000 mi., without fail. This is not right, we paid cash for the darned thing and it sits useless in our front yard.

Ram 1500 SLT 4.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 120,000 miles

Another freezing morning and this adds to the frustration with this truck:

A few seconds after the engine was started the chime and check gauges light came on. The oil pressure gauge showed 0. Turned off the engine immediately. Tried another start and the pressure was ok.

This happens on every start when temperatures are around or below freezing!

Don't know if this is the pressure switch or the pressure is really low. Left the engine running and drove away but gauge never showed pressure. Turned car off and immediately restarted and pressure was good!

What a piece of sh*t truck. Boycott Dodge Chrysler!!!

So what's the deal with this stupid motor. My son is an apprentice at Dodge and he just finished doing all the codes. I have a miss fire in #5 he reset the code again. It disappeared for 24hrs. That was 4wks ago. I also just had the oil and filters done. Im not cheap when it comes to using the right oils. Mobil 1 synthetic. I had my truck on some trails, coming into the city after being out all day...... the truck started making a ticking sound then a load bang. No oil pressure, and the truck shut off. So does this mean the motors cooked? I have it at my shop that Im employed with, mech took quick look.... not looking promising. Anyone have suggestions?

Bought a Dodge thinking this truck would provide good service like my '96 Ford F150 which has 300,000 miles and still going strong. Boy was I wrong! These trucks are a pile of junk!

Ram 1500 4.7L

Last year when i was going out to my dear lease my oil pressure dropped to zero and came back up then dropped again and back up then again. I stopped at an auto parts and changed the oil right there in the parking lot. I was about a hundred miles from home and didn't know what else to do. This seemed to fix the problem until I was on my way back and it started again. I took it to my mechanic who is an old and trusted friend. He checked it out and said he thought the problem was just some crud got in the end of the oil sending unit. He changed the unit and did an oil change and everything seemed fine.

Fast forward to about a month and a half ago and same thing starts. I wasn't to worried and thought I'd go to my meeting and take it to my mechanic afterwards. Well about two miles farther down the road and it starts running rough. I pulled over, called a tow truck and have it taken to mechanic. He said we have to replace engine and showed me the problem. Under the valve cover was a thick sludge and lots of it. He also showed me the oil pump and th hole for picking up oil is way to small for this size engine. One little bit of that sludge gets in there and thats it, time for a new engine.

After reading all these other complaints I think Dodge should pay us for our troubles and buy the truck back.

Ram 1500 4.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 91,000 miles

I thought I had a great deal when I bought my 2004 dodge ram1500. At the time in 2006 it only had 22000 miles on it, but now has 91000. Here recently i have been loosing oil pressure. I took it in and was told it was sludge build up. I thought this was wrong due to the fact I have had the oil changed every 3000 miles or less. I babied this truck seeing it was my first truck I have owned. I just had the motor rebuilt, two main bearings had turned and I had the crank shaft turned and polished. I am in it about 1200 dollars and now I am back to loosing oil pressure again. As soon as the truck gets to running temp the oil pressure drops and my truck shuts down. Can anyone help me here?
