truck ran bad from the get go. took it in several times for a running issue, was bad trying to cross a intersection, had a bad hesitation . Tustin dodge told me it was the nature of the beast. a mechanic at orange repair said I had a vacuum leak somewhere, Now this time frame was 5 years later, so I took it to Beech dodge (we left the engine lite on) dodge called me & asked if anyone been missing around with the truck, I asked why & dodge told me I was missing a gasket in the egr valve from the factory. after it was repaired I had no more problems with crossing an intersection. The problem I still have is the good/poor performance ,when going up an incline when the truck is running good all power no problem, when the truck is running poor it has a hard time climbing the incline it can not hold the speed , the truck will down shift a lot, now this is a off & on thing!!!! same problem getting on an on ramp, when it is running good it has all power when running poor it has a hard time picking up speed when I need it most . I did buy a super chip which I use from time to time when the truck is running real bad(super bad). I went to Vegas a few years ago & the truck was running ok I valet but when they brought my truck back to me it ran real bad , I could only get 15 miles per hour , had to go back to the hotel & call my son to send me the super chip I left at home, he had to send it by fed x I got it the next morning and was able to reprogram my truck , the truck ran ok after that (for a while). If anyone has any ideas please let me know. When it runs bad trying to pick up speed xtar gas peddle does not help when all of a sudden the engine noise changes & its all power again & the truck runs like a bat out of hell, anybody have an idea I can try !!!!!!!!!!!!

This is only the second problem I have had since I bought the truck used. The first problem was only to change a EGR valve which I did myself and did not cost much. Now this current problem I have involves the transmission. I had the feeling it was going to happen sooner or later. Brought it to the shop and its the shifting solenoid. The cost of repairing it with labor and everything else it would be $985. Now I just feel like pulling my hair out. Thank you Chrysler.

Took the truck in to see why the transmission was shifting differently and they said there's no problem. When you floor the accelerator to pass someone on the interstate, the tranny acts as if it doesn't know what to do. Don't know if it is slipping, or not downshifting properly or what is going on but dodge took no interest in it. If dodge took more interest in the vehicles they built and stood behind their warranty, maybe we might actually have some vehicles on the road today that is worth something.

Bought this Truck used, Barberino Dodge Wallingford, Ct, had 30 days warranty from dealer. I took it without signing anything for 3 days. At that time I needed a truck badly for my business. Well within my 30 days I reported a grinding noise between gears and howling in gear, shifting fine. It went back 3 times, with multiple mechanics and our friend, the salesman, all listening and agreeing, sounds like a bad transmission. The last time, an outside Dodge dealer came back with their conclusion, "NORMAL". I told the salesman, its on record, my complaint, and if it failed they would be held responsible. It never did fail before I turned it back in two years later for 5 bad water pumps in one year, with the heater core failing and blowing a leak from all the additives put in from pump failures. At that point the truck was not worth the balance of $12,000 still owed on it. They put it in auction and got shy of $4000 for it, still overpriced for that piece of junk. Coincidentally, the problem with the tranny was this; Dodge was scrapping 4 of 5 transmissions straight off the line for problems (before installation) with the torque converter. These have an electric controlled torque converter, which is pure junk. My brother, unknown to me, bought the same truck 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup, new. Two weeks later, his tranny blew, they replaced it. Two days later his tranny blew, they replaced it. One month later his tranny blew, they replaced it. Two months and it blew again. They replaced it. Two months again it blew, 4 transmissions, straight off the line. The dealer wanted to put in a used tranny, he fought and won. He filed for the lemon law. He still had to make all payments during the year it took for the hearing. The day came for the hearing and the judge threw it out for improperly filing it. He started all over. Another year and another hearing, He was there, The Dealer and his mechanic, the Dodge rep was there, they said "what do you want to do with it?" because it was now running correctly. He gave the judge the manual that comes with the vehicle and said "I like the truck so I'll keep it under one condition, if you get Dodge to answer the complaint phone number on the back of the book, I'll keep it." The judge called on speaker phone and it rang over 40 times to everyones' horror, still no one picked up. He got every penny back. The problem is an electronic torque converter and horrible manufacturing tolerances.

Ram 1500 4.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,000 miles

I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 4.7 L engine and a 5 speed automatic transmission. My problem is that the transmission seems to slip when shifting from 4th to 5th gear the RPM's will increase about 300rpm's before it shifts. I have had it in 3 different dealers shops the first one did some work to the valve body to no avail and said it must be in the computer. But the powers that be at dodge said since there is no fault code there is no problem. The second shop says that it is for smooth shifting and again no fault code no problem same at the 3rd shop they tell me though that since it has been logged as a complaint if I should have a problem it will be easier to claim under warranty which I have bought the extended warranty.

From upshift of 1st to 2nd or found in 4th to 5th under heavy accelleration, transmissions tries to down shift or gets confused????? seems as though electronic contorl has glitch. Dealer says no fault codes stored and no occurance on road test shows evidence!!! Bull crap! I was asked to monitor frequency in hopes fault can be logged, Fine but I spent 30 K for this vehicle and problem is real!!! pursuing lemon law but love truck???
