We were hooking up the truck to flat tow behind the motorhome to head to Florida when the transfer case would not shift to neutral. Took the truck to the Dodge dealer. They found the transfer case full of metal filings and not operative. They replaced the transfer case, estimated cost $2300.00. After the new transfer case was installed and tested they found that the totally integrated power module (TIPM) was defefctive, causing the shift motor to stay hot all the time. So, they ordered a new TIPM (another 1200.00) and installed it and all works fine. There was a recall on the TIPM for shifting into neutral without warning. As a result, Dodge covered all but 500.00 as a good will gesture because it was out of warranty. Had to wait almost 2 extra weeks to head south.
