Letter from congressman dent on behalf of constituent re heater box failure in Dodge trucks the consumer stated the initial problem with the fresh air/recirculation door started 2-3 years ago. Shortly, after replacing the fresh air/recirculation door, the heat and defroster stopped working. The consumer tried to replace the control switch in the dash, thinking it was bad and not working the internal doors properly, but after the replacement, the problem remained the same. He then replaced the mode door actuators, and the motor control that controlled the doors. However, that did not resolve the problem either. The consumer went to the dealer where he was informed the entire dash would have to be removed, because the doors failed and a new heater box was needed...updated 04/19/12 updated 04/23/12

When U turn the signals on they go the opposite way or completely go off it causes the break lights to go out as well this is a major safety issue and can result in a crash this should have been recalled along time ago why haven't you done anything I my self feel this is a major safety issue it gives everyone a false direction and results "wreck" I have had multiple incidents with this it happens frequently I have replaced bulbs and it is not the problem the problem is in the factory screw up.

My 2006 Dodge Ram truck turns on the wrong turn signal, for instance if I am making a right turn and I push the stalk up, the left turn signal turns on. This is an intermittent problem and sometimes my turn signals work and sometimes they do not. I also have the related problem that I have no control over my windshield wipers. When I turn them on, they will stay on for minutes at a time on a high speed and not turn off. Other times they will only go one or two times and shut off completely while it is pouring rain.

While driving towards flagstaff at night in the rain, the wipers went off. After I pressed the wash control, the wiper function, washed the window and wiped it enough to allow us to pull over. The wipers continued to work sporadically allowing us to creep to town for the night. Now, they do not work at all and we are waiting for the repair service to obtain back ordered parts. This was very dangerous and we were fortunate to have avoided a serious accident. Surely this function is a safety issue.

The multi function switch was defective in my vehicle. This caused the following safety concerns with the vehicle: 1) the windshield wipers did not work, 2) the turn signals did not work, and 3) the hazzard lights did not work. I have two problems with the situation: 1) while driving the vehicle during a rain storm on 9/26/2011, the windshield wipers did not work. This caused a safety concern and could have caused a potential accident and 2) while driving the vehicle, the turn signals did not work. This caused a safety concern and could have caused an accident. After taking the vehicle to the local Dodge dealership, I was informed that the multi function switch was on back order. To be exact, four thousand multi function switches were on back order per the local dealership and Chrysler group customer assistance. Neither the local dealership or the Chrysler group customer assistance had any idea when the part would be available. I asked both parties why the part is on back order since this is a matter of safety. No answer was given. After further research via the internet, it was determine that other Dodge Ram truck owners had the same type issue with their multi function switch being defective. It would be great if Dodge would notify all owners of the problem with the multi function switch and have them reviewed and/or replaced if needed. This could potentially save someone from serious injury or death from the the multi function switch being defective while driving. My hope and prayer is to have other Dodge Ram truck owners understand the importance of this problem. It could potentially save their life.

The problem started a few months ago, but I thought it had corrected itself. The past few weeks it has been a constant problem and will not stop. When turning the wipers on mist, they do not work. I have to switch it to the next setting to make them move. The blinkers are either working intermittently or not at all. When turning left, the right one comes one, both flash and stop or it will switch from one to the other. The same thing happens when turning right. Turning on the brights does not work either. It makes the washer fluid and wipers work.

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that the turn signals, windshield wipers, and hazard lights failed intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who performed a diagnostic test, but was unable to duplicate the failure. The dealer replaced the multi functional switch, but the failure was not remedied. The failure continued. The vehicle was not repaired a second time. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 64,200.

I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab. My A/C, heat, or defrost has not worked properly since I bought it used in 2008. I can hear the flan blowing hard but hardly any air comes out of any of the vents. My concern is that it does not defrost my windows properly and could cause an accident in the future. I have been lucky enough to be living in Texas for most of my military career but am planning on moving to a cooler climate and I know that not being able to defrost my windows will become an issue. It also becomes an issue on long trips when I can't get the cab cooled enough when it's 110 degrees outside and can't get it below 95 degrees inside my truck.

Recirculation door on heating/cooling system broke off inside duct work and was resting on the blower fan of 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. Cannot use defrost mode because broken door is restricting air flow. Seems to be a common problem with 2003-2008 Dodge Ram trucks. Truck has 26,000 mile and is out of warranty. Dealer wants 850-1,000 dollars to repair.

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that both turn signals and the windshield wipers failed. If the left signal was engaged the right signal would come on. When the right was engaged the left signal would come on. Whenever the windshield wipers were on they would automatically switch to a high or low mode intermittently. The dealer or manufacturer were contacted. The failure mileage was 110,000.

The recirculation door broke for the heater and air conditioning. This problem causes a low flow rate because the door blocks the fan opening, which leads to fogged windows and snow buildup on the windshield. Dodge is aware of the problem and has reengineering the door assembly, but is not fixing vehicles with the problem if the vehicle is out of warranty, instead they are charging customers for the parts and labor to fix the problem. This is an obvious defect, but Dodge is not repairing vehicles with the problem, instead they are charging customers for their mistake. My truck is a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 with only 35,000+ miles on it, but outside of Dodge's 3 yr or 36,000 mile warranty. Please make them recall this issue. Google "2006 Dodge Ram 1500 recirculation door" and you will see how many people have had this same problem.
