Ram 2500 Big Horn Edition 5.9L

The truck started behaving as if it was possessed. Doors locking and unlocking on their own, windows working intermittently, Odometer worked but speedometer didn't, overhead display showed 0.9 MPG. Sometimes truck would start and run for a few seconds then stall. Dealer had to order TIPM from Detroit since it wasn't available anywhere else. Fortunately it was covered under warranty but a year later right before inspection was due the left low beam quit working. It turned out to be the TIPM again. I had taken the truck to a place that specializes in electrical problems and they were able to find one for 700.00. They also told me TIPM failure is very common across the entire line of Chrysler vehicles. Now it's acting up again. When I try to dim the cluster lights they will go out and the only way to get them back on is to turn off the headlights then turn them back on. In other words I have to run with the cluster lights at full intensity. I'm also having the problem where the truck will stall a few seconds after starting. I know there was a class action suit for newer Chrysler/Dodge vehicles and I think it's about time for another one. This type of defect is unacceptable and Chrysler should be held accountable to fix the underlying problem and issue a recall.

Ram 2500 ST 5.9L I6 Diesel

On Feb 8th 2017 while stopped at a traffic light I put my left blinker on, the windshield fluid starting squirting non stop, then the engine fluttered and stalled out, restarted it and stalled again after 3-5 seconds, then the windshield wipers came on, lights on dash fluttered and mileage numbers turned to "no bus". I removed key from ignition and wipers and fluid continued to function with out switches turned on. Then the horn began to blow constantly. I called for my emergency roadside assistance and while on the phone I started to smell plastic burning and then seen smoke coming from between the hood and fender on the driver side. An ambulance crew pulled up and called for police and fire crew assistance. My car insurance does no cover any damage under the comp coverage calling it an electrical short. Call my Dodge dealer and they claim no known faults or recalls for electrical problems. I have found numerous complaints online regarding the left turn signal switch and tipm. In 2 cases I seen reported on the internet the owners encountered the same issues I experienced with their 2006 dodge ram 2500/3500. This is an extremely dangerous situation, luckily I did not open my truck hood until the fire crew arrived. Mechanic found that only the 2006 model year has this tipm it was changed from the 2005 model and then changed again in 2007. I think Dodge knew of this fault in the tipm circuit board with the turn signal switch and changed it for the next model year. It has been 3 weeks since the fire and my truck is still being worked on. So far a remanufactured TIPM was installed, 3 connectors that melted, the turn signal switch, after installing those the mechanic found truck is throwing the overboost code even with key in off position, replaced boost sensor and still getting the code, found bad heater intake relay that has to be replaced, waste gate control solenoid not reading correct voltage either so those parts are on order. Hoping no other systems are damaged due to the short. The mechanic is concerned a surge may have gone through some systems and if the relay and solenoid due not resolve the over boost reading the ecm may have been effected also. This has become a very expensive fix that appears to a known issue by all the complaints I have found on the TIPM and blinker switch on the 2006 Ram trucks. If it was not a known fault why would Dodge change the TIPM from the 2005 model for 2006 model and then change again for the 2007 model when the 6.7 liter engine was released in mid year? The early 2007 5.9 has the same TIPM that the 2007.5 6.7 engine has. Dodge knew something was faulty in my opinion just did not want to fix or recall the trucks for it. At least the police have a report for my incident and for highway safety reporting. If this happened while I was on a major highway it could have resulted in an accident. Now to file a complaint about my insurance company. A friend had an electrical fire in the 300 series Chrysler and their insurance company totaled the car due to the smell of the burnt plastic in the vents and vehicle. Claimed it presented a health risk to the occupants. Not my company - after 28 years with them and only 1 minor claim ($300 after deductible) they told me to go to an auto detailer and they should be able to get the smell out of the truck.

At first left blinker stopped working, then right brake light stopped working, then right rear window works every now and then, now back brake working and right dim headlight doesn't work, then tachometer goes up and down and now radio stations change by themselves. I've always loved my Dodge but now I'm out of love for I just cant understand why a power module would go bad and Dodge want make it right. I've seen many complaints but no results. I appreciate if someone would get this matter fixed so I can fall in love with Dodge again. Grrrr

Our Dodge Ram 2500 diesel truck has had several mysterious light problems.

The latest is the low beam on the drivers side headlight doesn't work, but the bulb is fine, the wiring is fine, there is 11.3 volts at the end of the wire, there is 11.3 volts at the beginning of the wire, 12.6 volts at the battery, and the bulb socket is good and the ground is good.

The Dodge dealership refuses to flash the TIPM, says the problem is a bad TIPM and that we need to pay almost $800 to replace and reprogram it. We have never flashed our TIPM and the spec says it can be flashed 5 times, so we suspect something else is wrong if that TIPM is showing flashed.

The dealership won't answer our questions about why it is definitely the TIPM (and not, say, a circuit limiter), and won't explain why the TIPM could show as having been flashed 5 times when we have never flashed it.

When we insist that Dodge provide an explanation before we have to find almost $1000 in our budget for what appears to be Chrysler's defective design, they say take it somewhere else.

Meanwhile it is unsafe (and maybe illegal) to drive at night without 2 working low beam headlamps. Again, the headlamp bulbs are fine and so is the wiring, it's the TIPM that is preventing the lights from working.

Contrast that with our regular mechanic, who diagnosed that it was the TIPM almost instantly, provided us a link to the forums explaining the problem, charged us $30, and sent us to Dodge to have it flashed.

Well, I thought I bought a rig that was going to last me for many years. 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 56000 miles on it and in one month the TIPM went out. Truck was down for 6 weeks and is still in the shop. Not sure what Dodge is doing about this problem but they need to step up and do something with their faulty design. The problem with my truck was the dashboard gauges would go on and off, no AC, no radio, basically no power and sometimes it would not start.
