I PURCHASED THIS VAN FROM A PRIVATE OWNER. I HAVE HAD IT FOR JUST OVER 2 YEARS. I KNEW IT HAD A FEW PROBLEMS WHICH I TOOK CARE OF. IT IS A 2002 DODGE RAM VAN 1500. I HAD LEFT HOME JUST TO GO TO THE STORE. WHEN I WAS JUST ABOUT TO GET ON THE FREEWAY MY VAN SWERVED AND I COULD NOT CONTROL IT. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT CONTROLLED AND MADE IT HOME (BARELY) AT 15 MILES PER HR. WHEN I LOOKED UNDER THE FRONT END I SEEN THAT THE FRAME HAD A BIG HOLE IN IT AND WAS CRACKED. TIE RODS BROKE OFF BECAUSE OF THIS. JUST 2 DAYS EARLIER I TOOK MY WIFE IN THIS VAN ON THE FREEWAY AND WE DROVE ABOUT 50 MILES. ALL I CAN SAY IS THANK GOD NOTHING HAPPENED TO US. I SOMETIMES TAKE MY GRANDCHILDREN WITH ME AND I DO NOT EVEN WANT OT THINK OF THE OUTCOME IF SOMETHING HAPPENED WHILE THEY WERE WITH ME. I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ONLIINE ABOUT SIMILAR PROBLEM AND I WANT AN ANSWER FROM DODGE REGARDING THE REPAIR OF THIS PROBLEM. I AM ON SOCIAL SECURITY AND I CAN NOT AFFORD TO PAY FOR A PROBLEM BEYOND MY CONTROL. I WOULD LIKE A RESPONSE OR I WILL SEE AN ATTORNEY

A lot of vans have frame rust to the point of not being safe. Paint coming off interior and exterior. Dodge just blows you off, because it was over thier warranty.

I found a post on here where someone had the exact same failure and I wanted to post my pics as well. I purchased this van new in 2002 and have kept it up well to have the underside fail. If I am reading of this failure being common on these vans and they are well maintained, I think there is a problem. I got the usual ander from Dodge on this that it is old and it is a matter of where I live being in Ohio. I think it is wrong. I am at the end of my rope on this. If anyone has advise or wants to team up with me on going to Chrysler, please reply.

researched 2002 Dodge Van 1500 and found out that there is a major problem with frame failure in this location. Dodge has not conducted a recall. My van has 45k miles on it and the frame failed in the parking lot. thank god I wasn't driving 65 mph on the road.
Dodge needs to conduct an investigation on the corrosion and failure of the frame at the steering box.
