Contour SE 2.0L I4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 129,000 miles

Bought the car for a friend for $900. Slipped out of gear in third, ignored it and blamed a gear lever problem. Since then it has slipped, slammed and lost nearly all forward movement within two weeks of buying the car. Was advised by mechanic to change transmission fluid. Had the procedure done with Mercon V and the problem just got worse. By the third week of owning the car I had lost virtually all forward movement, but reverse.

And can you believe Ford used these awful automatic transmissions up until 2008 in their vehicles? SHAME ON YOU FORD.

Contour 4 cyl

At about 50 mph the vehicle made several bambs and would barely go. Then I tried it later and it did it in 2nd also. The car is not worth repairing.

Contour SE 6 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 127,000 miles

Transmission needed to be replace at 87000 and needs to be replaced again. It cost over $2,000 to have it done at 87,000 miles but I am not going to spend another $2,000 to do it again 30,000 later!
