I HAVE HAD THE CAR A MONTH , BOUGHT USED . iT RAN FINE ,TILL I WENT ON THE HI-WAY.AND THEN IT SPUTTERED A FEW TIMES , ACTED LIKE IT WAS OUT OF GAS. i PULLED OVER , LET IT SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES,THEN IT STARTED RIGHT UP. THEN IT HAPPENED 5-6 MORE TIMES ON THE SAME DAY,I BARELY MADE IT HOME AT 40 MPH AND IT HAS HAPPENED 2 MORE TIMES . YESTERDAY I STARTED IT ,IT WAS IDLING VERY ROUGH.I TRIED TO GIVE IT A LITTLE GAS , AND IT POPPED AND DIED NOW IT WILL NOT START. i HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS ELECTRICAL , AND TO LET IT SIT TILL THE BRAIN RESETS THE FUEL UNIT . THEN TRY AGAIN .IT WORKED THE FIRST TIME. NOW I READ ITS THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM. I HAVE BEEN TOLD ITS THE FUEL FILTER (I THOUGHT THAT THE FIRST TIME AROUND). NOW I READ ITS A CHIP CLOSE TO THE FUEL FILTER OR PUMP. ITS THE ONLY CAR I HAVE I AM A GRANDMA WHO NEEDS A CAR THAT I CAN DEPEND ON. DID I GET 'TAKEN' AT THE CAR LOT.?

I hate this car!!! I really liked it when we first bought it, but now I can't wait to get rid of it, but hate to unload it on an unsuspecting buyer.

The car is unreliable and a royal pain in the "you know where" at times!

Contour SE V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 200,000 miles

I have had this problem more than once. Back in 2002 I drove to Colorado from TX and my car stopped on me. I took it to a Ford sales lot and they hooked it up to a diagnostic machine for 24 hrs. When I went to pick it up they told me nothing was wrong with my car. I drove back to TX with it and it broke down again. I took it to another Ford dealer who hooked it up to another machine and again said nothing was wrong. For the next 6 months I had to make sure that my gas tank did not go BELOW 3/4 of a tank. If it did then I was stuck on the side of the road. Finally I took it in for an oil change and they told me I needed a new fuel pump. It was very frustrating. I have had nothing but heartache and debt since I purchused my 2000 Ford Contour SE. I know how you feel.

After going over a speed bump - the car started shuttering and sputting like the fuel was not getting to the motor. Was able to get to a parking space. Upon further investigation we have found that no power is getting to the pump itself. Could this be a safety feature? How do we reset this? This is very frustrating. I've had many problems already - the dash board coming up, the starter makes a whir often and won't start right away
