Our police officer parked his police unit # 842 a 1996 Ford Crown Victoria under his car port area after completing his shift and was asleep at the time his neighbor alerted him that his vehicle was on fire with flames coming from under the hood. Atempts to put out the fire with extinguisher were not successful. The fire dept was called and responded. The fire also engulfed the carport and portions of the double wide mobile home. According to the state fire marshall the fire developed in the engine compartment and was the reult of an electrical malfunction.

Fire occurred 6 hrs after parking. Does crown vic use same speed control deactivation switch as Lincoln? I understand the Lincoln town cars have a recall for fires like this.

Area near power distribution box (A/K/a engine fuse compartment) started fire with electrical short. Car was only driven 4 minutes at low residential speeds. Parked in driveway of officers home. 2 minutes later raging fire. Car was totalled. Satellite beach fire marshall, lt. Abernathy phone 407-773-4405 has report and digital photos. Car has only been driven intermittently before, not on routine patrol. No sirens, strobes, or light bars were being used.
