Noise slowly grew louder until I had to take it to the dealership where I bought it. Have always liked the vehicle and strangely still do. Found out the right rear bearing was going out and they had to replace it. Under power train warranty so it wasn't a financial problem, only an inconvenience and the loss of security on whether the problem was gone. Service person told me the first one they have seen and Landmark Ford here in Tigard, OR sell a lot of Fords. However, a coworker also has a 2007 Edge and he had to have one of his rear bearings replaced.

Design and part defect. This is the third time but now not under warranty so big expense out of my pocket. Makes me question whether to ever buy a Ford product again, as at the same time I'm dealing with drive shaft issues that could cost $1,000 to fix.

what a major issue on a vehicle that was not even 3 years old not sure if I would by another Ford ever had 2 Chevy before and never an issue and now had to have the speed sensor in the rear replace causing ABS and traction light staying on costing another $400 dollars

I purchased a 2007 (new vehicle) on 02/05/08 from a Ford Dealer in Tazewell, VA. Shortly after purchase the right rear hub began making a noise that gradually got worse until I had to have both rear hubs replaced on 03/27/09 (33,189 miles). Luckily they were replaced under warranty. I had both hubs replaced at a Ford Dealership in Blacksburg, VA and within 3,000 to 4,000 miles I again noticed the noise returning. When I questioned coverage under warranty I was told that the car was no longer in warranty. I now have 71,168 miles on the vehicle and the noise is so loud that it is hardly bearable. Previously, I had a 2003 Ford Explorer and the rear end in it had to be replaced twice. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND A FOR EXPLORER OR EDGE BECAUSE OF THE POOR QUALITY OF THE DESIGN OF THE REAR ENDS.
How do I make this problem go away - buy a foreign built vehicle?
Update from Nov 13, 2010: I contacted the Ford Customer Complaint Representative (800-392-3673) to report my problem. What a watse of time. It is MY problem and Ford will do nothing to assist with correction of the problem. Their advice, "take it to a dealer and get it fixed."
Since I did not get any satisfaction from Ford, I have filed a safety complaint with NHTSA.Gov (800-424-9393).
I would suggest that if you have the same problem that you also file a complaint with both Ford and NHTSA.

This is really getting annoying now. This will be the 3rd time to replace wheel bearings on my Edge in less than 3 years. To make it even better, my warranty is out. I have checked and rechecked online to see if there was a recall I missed. Imagine my shock when I find there hasn't been one.
Could someone please help me wake the powers that be at Ford? Anyone with half a brain and an internet connection can see there is an obvious problem with these hubs & bearings. How many people will have to be severely injured and/or killed before Ford gets off their butts and does something to fix this?!?
Update from Dec 27, 2010: After replacing the 3rd rear wheel hub assembly 4 months ago, I now have to replace a 4th. I contacted my local dealership and spoke with the service manager. After doing some research he found a technical bulletin that had been sent out by Ford January 2010 that says you need to replace the trailing arms along with the hub assembly. This should run about $900 for both sides. The service manager is willing to give me $500 in loyalty dollars to help with the cost. While I appreciate his offer, I think after all this, Ford should pick up the entire tab. I also don't think I will be purchasing another Ford any time soon.

Just after the warranty expires - both rear bearing blow out!!!!!! Are you kidding me? THis car is a highway miles only car driven by my wife. I'm not sure the car has even gone faster then 70 miles an hour since she drives the kids around. Original tires and rims all in perfect shape and the bearings wear out. Look on the internet and I see tons of posts that it happened as early as after 4000 miles. If you own a Edge get those Rear bearings checked or put $1500 in you car budget now. Called FORD and they didn't see any problem in this and felt no need to admit any wrong doing. After years of being the fool in my group of friends for driving FORD, I will no join the them and buy an Asian or European car - it kills me not to support the US industry.

I had to have my rear left wheel bearing replaced as it was about to lock up according to the technician.
They gave me a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty on their work.
well, 20k later, it's doing it again. now it's not under warranty! What a load of crap! Who has ever heard of having bearings go out TWICE on a car with only 60k miles. Isn't this obviously a defect?

Has anyone had problems with wheel bearings on the TWD version of the 2007 Ford Edge? The dealer said it was the Continental tires. Replaced all of them with Michelin's. Still have the noise. HELP!!!!

Loud roaring from right rear wheel. THIS WILL BE THE FOURTH TIME THE SAME WHEEL BEARING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. Was replaced three other times under warranty. Car has 73,000 miles on it. Am I the only one that thinks this is ridiculous. Called dealership, will not help out on it. Asked if I should contact ford and raise hell. I was told that it wouldn't do any good because Ford would just end up calling them (the dealership). I have been a Ford man all my life, I will seriously rethink this on my next vehicle purchase.
