I bought my 2011 Edge used in 2017. I had the car only a few months before the back up camera started failing. Very disappointed to say the least. It sounds like this is a common problem and an expensive repair. Come on Ford!!!!

I find this to be a real problem. The dealer said it could be fixed by replacing the backup camera for $ 800.00. Since the problem started in Dec. 1917 the camera has come on at times and stayed on for one day or a week, just as it wants to. Friday, March 29, 2019, is the present day and it still has a mind of its own to works as it pleases.

Edge Limited 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 89,000 miles

Not long after getting my car, the backup camera stopped showing me the surroundings on my screen. It is just a black screen when I put the car in reverse. Before this happened the parking aid arrows (red and green) went away first, then the entire view of the rear went away.

Sometimes the buttons on the screen don't work either. For example: If I chose to change the programming from FM to Sirrius XM, it would not do anything, or to change a programmed station, nothing!

Camera has not worked in awhile. Its a terrible vehicle all together. Sometimes it gets stuck , sometimes froze, sometimes its upside down and sometimes in errors with lines through it. Most times it just doesn't work at all. Which is a pain in the butt/ Now its hard to back up because I can't see and I don't want my children driving with no rear view. Its dangerous.

Having the camera available allows you to see your surroundings (front and back) which helps with safety. Without it you have to turn around and can't see what is in front of you because you are looking backwards.

When I took it to the dealership they said to replace the camera was about $800 dollars well I immediately said no. I began to look around for reputable repair shops in the area and found one that quoted me a price of around $200-300 which of course sounded better. Besides I really don't know at this point what the real problem may be. I am going to try the shop and see what they have to say and their price.

I think the camera repair should be part of the warranty coverage.

All the niceties on this vehicle, which were part of the price, break or won't function properly not long after purchase.

The picture on the camera stinks, can't make out lines in a parking space, and only useful for the beep when you are too close to something, or if someone walks behind. Seriously think the camera only has one mega pixel.

Dealer says he sees this all the time and can only replace for an exorbitant amount of money.

But, new problem is the back up camera stopped working. Says I have to contact the dealership. After looking on this site I am a little unimpressed to know that both of these problems are "common". You would think that there would be a recall if it is "faulty".

Back up camera suddenly stopped working. The door message appears that the door is ajar when it isn't.... Very frustrating. Obviously a faulty connection and a very expensive trip to the dealer. Anybody have an alternate solution?????? Help!!!!

Edge SEL

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

The initial issue with the back up cam was that it would randomly not come on unless you put the car back in park. Then there were times that I needed to shut the vehicle off. One day I was backing up in to a parking space in a parking lot and when the back up cam image popped up on the screen it was of my garage door when I backed up the night before! Scared the crap out of me! Then the issue that started happening was that the image would randomly be upside down on the screen or only display on the top portion of the screen. then there would be lines all across the image, almost like looking through a screen. Now it went to either upside down image on screen or "camera currently not available" or some message like that.

Edge Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission

The back up camera decided to stop working, or only partially work on some occasions, along with the Door Ajar warning always staying on and other issues happening. The guiding lines on the camera never come up any more and no amount of effort in settings fixes that. The conveniences this car includes are the reason we bought it, and the reason we were willing to pay more money for it than we would have paid for another vehicle.

Ford needs to be help accountable for the problems inherent in the 2011 Ford Edge, Recall them and repair the problems!!!
