Edge

  • 98,000 miles
The drivers side rear door ajar light stays on after opening and closing the door. Door ajar light comes on randomly and will sometimes go out after opening and closing the door after several attempts. The door ajar light will come on after the car has been stationary for both short and long periods of time. The dome light will stay on if the door ajar light stays on. We had the same issue happen with the drivers side door and had to pay to have it replaced. This is apparently a defective part for this year and model and would like to have it replaced.

Really two complaints: 1) dash/center console lights not shutting down properly and repeatedly turn on/off when car is turned off. Results in battery draw and frequent dead batteries and 2) door latch warning light will not turn off and doors do not lock properly when being driven.

Door ajar light on all the time due to a faulty door latch. This issue causes the interior lights to stay on draining the battery and causing a hazard when driving at night. Also, the doors will not lock when driving, which can be a hazard in certain situations. The cost to make this repair through Ford is approximately $400, which I do not have in my budget. Please do a recall for this problem, since it seems to be a recurring issue for this model. Problem began as intermittent and has now become constant. First noticed problem around July of 2016

On October 2016, the driver was westbound on 2 lane route 40 near springfield, Ohio. A medical condition caused the driver to pass out. The auto veered off the road initially traveling approximately 40 miles per hour. It crossed through a yard and hit nose first into a hill. Almost $10,000 worth of damage was caused to the front end of the vehicle. The airbag did not inflate and the driver sustained head and facial injuries due to contact with the steering wheel. The driver also sustained deep brusing to the chest due to the seat belt restraint. We are interested to know why the airbag did not inflate and protect the driver. The head injuries and vision problems continue to restrict the driver form being able to drive again.

The drivers side door latch does not catch. This causes the "drivers door ajar" warning. This also causes the lights to no turn off when the car is parked and turned off. This resulting the battery being drained. When battery is drained the car won't start and can leave the driver stranded.

Door ajar light won't go out when closing door, or light just randomly comes on while driving, this is causing dome lights and console light to come on and stay, which can be dangerous in the dark the lights are draining battery even when cars not running, this could leave driver stranded with dead battery at anytime

I purchased my car 9/23/14. My passenger and left rear doors continue to indicate doors ajar when they're indeed closed. This has caused me to replace my battery twice in 2yrs. Extremely costly and frustrating! because the interior lights stay on, it's draining my battery!!! we as customers need Ford to do their part as a reparable manufacturer and take care of this grossly defective part! I'm a woman and a mother, there's nothing worse than being stranded bc your door light won't go off, yet again drawing the battery. This is too dangerous! the doors wont even lock because of this issue. It's baffling that Ford doesn't see this as a danger to their customers. At this point I won't ever buy another Ford nor will I recommend this vehicle to anyone else!!

I bought the 2001 Edge used. After two days I noticed the passenger door open alarm came on and I could not remove it. Bad sensors. Now, both the passenger and driver door alarms stay on. And, it will not allow me to lock my doors, so when I drive the doors are unlocked. My grand daughter opened a back door at a stop light. In addition, due to the sensors, the dome light stays on and drains my battery. Looking this up there are a lot of complaints about this issue. To test the issue while driving, my brother opened the door on the interstate doing 70 mph. When I try to lock the doors they reopen immediately. This is a dangerous situation. It happened 2/6/2017 and has remained this way.

The rear driver-side door indicator switch has become unreliable. It now indicates the rear driver-side door is open a majority of the time. Because the car thinks the door is not closed, interior lights do not dim reliably and the doors no longer lock reliably. I don't get the option to do so until the car is well under way.

The door latch sensor is failing causing the car to believe door is unlatched. This leaves dome light on inside car even while driving. I understand Ford has recalled other models for this failure but not Edge.

problem #121

Jan 182017

Edge

  • 75,000 miles
Door ajar light stays on when the door is completely closed/latched. That does not allow to lock the doors automatically (after the speed is more than 5 mph) or even manually since they unlock immediately. That is a safety concern. Also, the interior lights stay on until you drive, blinding you and this can be a safety issue at night.

Driver door would not close. Several occasions the door closes to a "thump" as the door latch will not latch to the body. I would have to reach into the latch, while holding the door handle open, to push it up to get the door to latch.

problem #118

May 012016

Edge 6-cyl

  • 80,000 miles
Edge has door ajar light issue that is cause by faulty door latches. Door sensor incorrectly reads door(s) as being open that causes battery to drain and discharge. Interior lighting comes on while vehicle is moving that may cause distraction while driving at night. Issue occurs while vehicle is in motion and while stationary.
