problem #2

Dec 012015

Edge Limited 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 38,000 miles

In Dec. of 2015 the drivers door ajar started and just got worse until I replace the door latch assy. Now this summer the SYNC system went out, no radio, phone, backup camera, heat and air controls, clock. Now the Front Passenger door ajar is going mad. Need to replace all these parts at my expense. I do my own work to save the high labor cost when I can.

Update from Oct 4, 2017: The day after I wrote the complaint, my SYNC system came back on after 3 months of being off, but low and behold it went off again tonight, it's not the APIM doing it so time to check elsewhere, any help would be nice. thank you. I have replaced the APIM.

problem #1

May 012017

Edge Limited

  • Automatic transmission
  • 98,000 miles

The passenger front door latch randomly unlocks. This causes the car alarm to randomly go off and leaves the car unsecured. The interior & exterior lights will randomly come on; sometimes they stay on for a long period of time and sometimes they flash. The touch screen (radio, camera, temperature, etc) will go on/off (out of sync. Seems to be a major electrical issue with this model. These are all safety issues for various reasons: interior lights come on randomly at night (even while on driving), unsecured vehicle, unlocked doors while driving, draining the battery, electrical issue may pose a fire hazard threat or accident, etc.

I have had these issues for MONTHS. Around the fifth month of calling Ford, they finally issued a case #, only to deny it after I went to the dealership. This is a costly repair, with many complaints about the repairs not even fixing the problem.

This seems to be a common issue, but when you contact Ford, they act like they haven't had many complaints on these issues. They say that there are not enough complaints to issue a recall. PLEASE contact Ford!!

I have also filed a complaint with the NHTSA https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE Washington, DC 20590 1-888-327-4236 1-800- 424-9153 (TTY)

NHTSA did an investigation on this known issue, but has since closed it. (see link below; scroll down the page for investigation article) https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2011/FORD/EDGE/SUV/FWD#investigations

Stating: "Risk to motor vehicle safety has not been identified. No accidents or accident related injuries have been reported. A safety-related defect trend has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted. Accordingly, the investigation is closed."
