Escape XLT V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 61,000 miles

After reading about all the complaints I decided to add mine. I as well am currently having my 2006 Ford escape looked at. By what the mechanic told me it appears to be the same problem that everyone else is having. I was driving my wifes car earlier in the day and it was fine. There where no warning lights on. We went to my doctors appointment and after I took my car back and she drove off in the escape to go back to work. She made it about one block before the car decided to buck and stall. She got it started again and pulled into a parking lot and called me. When I got there I started it up and the engine was making all sorts of noise. I turned the car off as fast as possible and popped the hood. After checking every thing out I noticed it as very low on oil. We took my car to go buy some. When we got back I added some oil to bring it back up to where it should be. Started the car and same thing. So I called are mechanic and he came and got the car. He said it sounds like a rod broke. First Question to ford no warning light came on why? If it is a problem why is this not a recall? Where did the oil go because it is not on my garage floor, or in her space at work? As soon as my mechanic calls I will update this. But I am pretty sure it is the same as everybody else. So we all need to file complaints or sue them. I will gladly be in charge of this and you can email me @ michaosulliv@aol.com thanks and hopefully this gets to all that have posted about this.

Okay, thought I had a great car with this 2006 Escape. Loved it so much we bought a second one, a 2008. Sold that one a year after purchase because a lot of little things kept going wrong. Even though they were fixed under warranty, I felt like it was a lemon waiting to happen. Meanwhile, kept up with all the maintenance, oil changes, tires, etc on the 2006. Got it up to 100K and thought wow, this is great. A few weeks later, hubby was driving home and heard an engine knock while going uphill. Thinking it might be bad gas, we put in some octane boost. Nope, didn't help. Had a mechanic listen to the knock, and he said "rod/bearing failure". WTH???? Never any signs of a problem until this??? Car is paid for, but I've been out of work 6 months, we only have 1 car, and now where does this leave us? We always had good luck with Fords, but right now - no way. I'm leaning to go back to Nissan...I had a 1995 Altima which went 178K and would have gone longer except I totaled it! this really sucks!

Engine blew on Ford Escape despite having it serviced regularly, and the oil changed and checked the previous Friday. This occurred on Monday. Am unable to replace due to disability and am now without a vehicle. Contacted Ford who gave me the royal runaround and said there was nothing they could do because it was not covered or reported by the government regulating agency. Found numerous other complaints similar to this one. So BEWARE FORD ESCAPE OWNERS!!! Even though you spend money to service your vehicle and keep it in good repair, it is no guarantee that it will provide you with reliable transportation.

I, like many of you, have experienced the wrath of the 06' Ford Escape. We went for a standard oil change on Christmas Eve morning since we were going out of town to see relatives. Right after the oil change, it all went down hill. The car was shaking and had a rough idle. It even stalled out. Then it started sounding terrible, like it had a diesel engine. My car never sounded that way before. Long story short, after it was looked at by several mechanics and even a Ford Dealership. The diagnosis...ENGINE FAILURE! (Which no mechanic seemed to be suprised, typical for this make model and year apparently) I bought this car brand new and for it to only have 73k miles and engine failure was a complete shame and it should be illegal. I have always been a loyal Ford owner (my relatives even work for Ford so its a name I respected and grew up with)...not anymore. I will never own another Ford! My warranty expired at 60k miles and of course Ford will not take any responsibility. In others words...its my problem. Did I replace my engine?...NO. Why would I throw more money into a car than it is worth? not to mention, who knows how long the next engine would last...tops 3 yrs. I took the money I could have used for an engine and bought a Chevy. Currently, I have a big blue bird-poo catcher piece of junk paperweight to show for my Ford loyalty sitting in my driveway. I suppose I should tow it to a scrap yard. Thanks Ford!!!

Escape 3.4L V4

Thank the Lord I had just dropped off my two young sons, one eight years and the other 5 months at their grandma's. I turned onto the interstate entrance ramp, merged into the right lane, and when the engine tached out in third gear the knock started loudly and then lost power. It slowed to 50 MPH on the interstate, so I got off at the next exit where I found the engine was low 3 quarts of oil. I assumed it was the only problem, topped it off and restarted it and smoke filled the inside of the cab. upon stepping out found at least a quart and a half under the truck on the pavement. The Ford dealership I had it towed to for an estimate quoted us $5700 not including diagnostics or hidden damge to the transmission, pending further investigation tomorrow. I beleive it to be a BROKEN ROD gone through the block. Go Figure. Sheesh we have had it almost 6 months. in debt $11,000 for it plus no warranty/as is and $5700 for a new engine?? really?? ouch

Took care of the vehicle, had no warning, the mechanic said it blew a rod and probably needed an entire new engine costing over 6k dollars. The vehicle is not worth a lot more than that. The mechanic also told me this is not uncommon for this vehicle. We were very disappointed in this product to say the least.

I can't believe the posts regarding noisy engines, thrown rods and failures on 2006 Ford Escapes. I do not know how much my Escape will cost to repair, but, I know it is going to take a lot of work to get it back on the road.Hopefully there will be a recall on 06 Escapes.

Escape LX 2.3L

I read the other complaints regarding 2006 Ford Escape engine failure and thought ours was worth mentioning as well. Same as the others, engine started making a loud clicking noise, everything shut off and froze up, tore apart engine and the connecting rod came loose and punctured a hole in the engine block. Of course Ford is of no help, sent several emails, to an address in which we were told was corporate, not the case, just customer service again. A local auto repair wants about $4000 to repair this. Had a certified mechanic look at it, engine failure! My aunt has a mercury mariner, same vehicle basically, same thing happened, connecting rod!

Escape XLS 2.3L

Drove home after having an oil change, car starts to shake and surge like fuel pump going out. Got it home and then would not start. Changed fuel pump, spark plugs, camshaft position sensor, and it still would not start. Checked injectors, within spec, wires to coil, no voltage to them. Those wires come from the PCM. I talked to a mechanic, and he said that the culprit was the PCM. Had car towed to a dealer, changed PCM, still no start. They took the valve cover off, and a ton of sludge was found. And I changed the oil with 5W20 (Valvoline, then Valvoline Maxxlife) according to the manufacturer specifications (every 5000 miles). An engine is supposed to last much longer than that. I know if I call Ford, they would not help at all.

I bought my first family car 2 years ago.We decided to get a 2006 ford escape because it would have room for our new baby. Two years later on my way home from work it started knocking. We found out that the rod is broken in the engine.we still owe $9000.00 on it and the motor will cost 5 grand to replace. We called Hertrich were we got it from and they said they only cover up to 5 years or 60000 miles. And don't you know we have 64000 miles and it hit 5 years in jan.I think ford screwed over everyone who bought one of these.I have two small kids and don't have any money to fix it so now I have to pay for a car I can't drive and car pool to get to work.I will never buy s ford again.Or recommend them to anyone.

Regular oil changes, never a drip never a puff of smoke. Oil went out tail pipe one night low oil light never came on, #1 rod bearing is in pieces in the bottom of the oil pan. Off warrenty, Ford is of no help in fact the service department told me the light was designed to come on once the motor was completely out of oil. WOW thats a great light to have. Great product, really, Ford built tough, good as a Toyota...... Call me a Chevy guy now.

Escape XLT 3.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles

I was driving down the interstate on my way home when all the sudden my engine started knocking. Took it to the dealer to find out it's a rod knock. My Escape only has 45000 miles on it and Ford doesn't offer any assistance for vehicles outside of the warranty. I guess there is a reason they are the only manufacturer that doesn't offer warranty past 36000. It seems all the issues ford keeps having with their vehicles recently are extremely costly and the attitude they have is it's your baby. After having a ford escort that blew a head gasket and cracked the head at 60000 miles, then an f150 blow a spark out at 70000 miles and now my 2006 escape blowing an engine at only 45000 miles, how can I trust to ever buy another ford product again. But I guess ford doesn't care about KEEPING their customers. I have never owned anything but a ford in my life but I guess this is my last. Ford doesn't give a crap anymore and I can't afford $6000 every time I keep a vehicle after the warranty ends. And you shouldn't have to worry about purchasing extended warranties if you have a decent vehicle.

Escape XLS 2.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 74,000 miles

I purchased this escape to haul a new baby, my spouse doesn't drive manual transmissions. so we share this one. I have never missed an oil change, always use 5w20 like the manufacturer recommends and MOTORCRAFT filters. Without warning the motor started to tick (directly after replacing fluids) then it threw a rod through the front side of the block leaving a 2 inch exit hole in the ever crappy aluminum block. I contacted Ford immediately. even though it only has 74k on it they would not help. "No programs in place to help you at this time." a reman engine costs 3500 dollars....i still owe 8 grand on this pig, junkyards are out of the question as those have enough mileage to fall apart upon installation. Thank You Ford, I WILL BE BUYING DODGES FROM HERE ON OUT.

Escape XLT 2.3L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

I bought a pre-owned 2006 Ford Escape from a reputable dealer. We also purchased the extended warranty. Unfortunately, 500 miles outside my extended warranty, the engine began knocking. It started pretty quietly and got progressively worse and louder over time. As I was driving one afternoon, there was a loud BANG, a huge jerk, and the car went dead. I coasted to the side of the road, where it would not crank. The engine had thrown a rod.

I was forced to buy a used engine from a 2005 Ford Escape, as Ford has deemed this particular engine "non-serviceable". This means you can not get replacement parts to rebuild this engine. The replacement engine was rebuilt with good parts from the previous engine. FORD needs to step up and do something about this engine. They know it's faulty, which is why it was only manufactured for THREE years and is now "non-serviceable". Disgusting!!!

This is my 2nd incident with the SAME problem on the SAME vehicle. After having the engine replaced following the first time it threw a rod, I had engine failure on the interstate. This time there was no warning that anything was wrong with the engine. The car just suddenly lost all power and died. I coasted to the shoulder, where the car attempted to turn over once, and then was dead permanently. Diagnosis-ENGINE FAILURE AGAIN!!! 2nd time in less than 2 months. The car was only repaired for TWO DAYS!!!

Third time is a charm, right? This was the 3rd time in 4 months that the engine on this car had failed. This time I had the engine rebuilt using a combination of old and new parts, due to Ford deeming the engine "non-serviceable" and refusing to offer replacement parts. I had the car repaired for 2 days and the engine failed on the interstate, 150 miles from home. There was no knocking, no jerking, no warning that anything was wrong. One time, the oil light came on. I immediately stopped and checked the oil level. I added oil, and the light went off. It never came back on. Instead, the car just died and and a huge plume of smoke began boiling out from under the hood. Smoke also began pouring in through the vents. Initially, I was concerned about an engine fire. I shut off the car, checked under the hood, and did not see any flames or visible damage to the top of the engine. I had to call a wrecker service. He checked underneath the car and informed me of the gaping hole I now had in my oil pan. The engine had thrown a rod AGAIN!! I got to pay a $500 tow bill on a car that's engine had failed 3 times in 4 months. It was not repaired again. I now owe $15,000 for a very nice paperweight. THANK YOU, FORD MOTOR COMPANY!!!

Escape XLS 4WD 2.3L I4 Duratech

  • Automatic transmission
  • 58,000 miles

I bought this car brand new and felt I would not need an extended warranty, I couldn't have been more wrong. I stopped to get gas, everything was running fine, no warning lights or funny sounds. I go to turn the car on to leave and there is a loud tapping sound coming from the bottom of the engine instantly. I am in the process of replacing the engine and the tech said that either the timing chain or the oil pump failed, which in an interference engine spells disaster. Now I was beyond my 3 yr 36000 mile warranty( the vehicle has 58000 miles) so basically ford does not want to help me out. They did give me a form for a "good faith" after warranty adjustment but said they felt not much would come of it. NICE, THANK YOU FOR NOTHING FORD!!
