Escape 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 13,484 miles

I bought my escape 2 years ago and just rolled up 21k clicks, now i faced a lots of problems..last winter my moonroof popped out,i ESCAPED to work just to bring it to the dealership to replaced for a new moonroof glass..The reason why it popped out? according to their investigation there was too much pressure inside the cabin..very clearly that this is an engineering failure.

Another problem was transmission fluid leakage..i ESCAPED again to work as usual to bring it to the dealership..i showed to them where was the leak and i was surprised that they already knew the problem.. i asked if it is covered by the warranty and they said it does..Ford must recall this vehicle and change the name ESCAPE...you know what i am saying....

My 2008 Ford Escape at just 26,000 miles, was leaking transmission fluid terribly. It turns out that it was the transmission cooler. I have to stand up Joe Machens Ford in Columbia MO, they stool behind the car, the warranty, and me and fixed the problem with no questions asked. I wish all dealerships offered the same level of service that I received. (not taking away from the face that Ford did an injustice to us Ford buyers)

Ford will fix this problem at no cost to you. I have a 2008 Ford Escape and my transmission cooler is leaking, causing my transmission to slip. I took my car into Park Cities Ford this morning and they printed out a TSP (Customer Satisfaction Program 09B10) dated March 2010. The form states that the "Transmission Fluid cooler in your vehicle may develop a crack and leak transmission fluid. If not repaired, this leak may result in rough/harsh shifting and potential damage to the transmission." "Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to perform the repairs under this program on your vehicle free of charge (parts and labor). The Customer Satisfaction Program will be in effect until August 31, 2010 regardless of mileage. Coverage is automatically transferred to subsequent owners." If you have previously had this repair done, you may be eligible for a refund. To initiate a refund request, they ask that you give your paid original receipt to your dealer before August 31, 2010.

had same problems as others with 2008 ford escape transmission cooler leaking oil. Went to dealer to complain and get cost estimate for repair. As of Mar. 5, 2010 Ford Motor Co. will now repair and replace faulty parts at no charge to owner for this problem. I went Mar. 8, 2010 to Ford dealership and they told me it is now covered and there is no limit to miles you have on vehicle. Had mine repaired Mar.8, 2010 and It cost me $0. Ford finally stepped up to the plate. I would assume that people that paid out of pocket for repair before this came out could get their money back I hope. That I don't know. I guess you can contact Ford to find out about that. I hope this helps you people that have this problem. Jim

I'm glad this forum is here, but holy crap, I'm pissed. I'm at 36,900 miles, ridiculously close to the average mileage for the occurrence of this problem. My Escape's been stuck at stop signs (and in intersections), jerking forward, and squealing a bit when it catches. I reached under my car for something the other day and my hand ended up covered in slime, which I'm now figuring is transmission fluid. I thought, well, I'm still under warranty... Apparently, that counts for nothing at all. I didn't want an American car again and got stuck with one anyway. I think I'd sooner set myself on fire than do it again. When I bring it in, I'm going to make a scene and a half. I hope we all get the respect from Ford that we deserve in the future, but it's a shame they're currently weaseling out of this. Not all of us have much disposable income, but we all need wheels. Thanks for nothing, Ford.

Thought I had a minor oil leak as I noticed stain on garage floor. I ignored it for awhile but then looked carefully and found it to be transmission fluid (red). Since there was only 40,000 miles on the car I assumed the repair would be covered under drive train warranty. Obviously if it contains transmission fluid it must be part of the transmission right? Well Ford doesn't think so. I was stuck with $741 bill and advised to call Ford customer service. What a waste of time. They refused to help and did not even allow escalation. After finding the TSB exists I am even more dissappointed. Ford knows they sold a defective product but won't do anything about it. I have been driving Fords most of my adult life but that will change next time I buy a car.

Took the car into the Ford dealership...it would not pull out into traffic and lunged forward at stop lights. They explained that the transmission cooler started leaking and needed a new one...it was not covered under the powertrain warranty. It is VERY dangerous...equivalent to the stuck gas pedal...on my way to the dealership I pulled into traffic and could no go anywhere and was almost hit. Everyone needs to go to

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/defect/defectsearch.cfm to file a complaint and get this recalled...you can also call..it is a very easy process and I was told that no one had reported it..please do this and we can get our money back for this.

Some idiot in Kansas made the transmission fluid cooler to where it likes to leak the "blood" of the transmission. I read some other reports about it on autobeef and decided I should check mine, since it had been doing the same thing. Well, I go look for a puddle of red "transmission blood" and discover a oily pool of red transmission fluid. I go to look around the front passenger side of the engine, and discover that it is SOAKED with transmission fluid. The oil cooler, which is in front of the radiator, behind the grill, is in a very difficult to reach spot. Replacing it will be difficult and undoubtedly expensive. I hope to be calling Ford soon to PMS at them about their track record of transmission failures. I'm glad I caught this in time, I'm sending it to the dealer tomorrow.

Leaking transmission fluid. It is disappearing. Ford dealership replaced some sort of breather/vent hose. Still is disappearing. I think it is the cooler I have heard about. If it is, it is not covered under any drive train warranty and will cost me 500 - 1000 dollars.I lose about 1 quart every month. Will be trading it in and let some other chump worry about it.

At 27,000 miles had a TCCF transmission cooler condenser failure-repaired under regular warranty-this on July 16,2008; Four days later my wife rear ended by a DWI and had over $14,000 damages. Over three months before car returned to us-had rear noises-and tire problems-Dealership replaced two tires/Ins two tires. At 38,000 miles -about Feb 9, 2010 same TCCF transmission cooler condenser failure-after some discussion and a letter to Ford Customer Relations my Dealership covered it with a Dealership Good Will. We have been long time customers and have had all service and the body shop work done there. They have stood tall and behind their Ford. We are appreciative of that-we feel we are the fortunate ones, from what we have seen in similar complaints about other vehicles of all kinds; we have kept all service records-always on Our Ford Home Page -it helped. We also had a steering noise (klacking sound at intervals of one to three times maybe a day--A TSB on it and the Dealership also repaired that under Good Will-replaced Steering Shaft and Coupling- We still have the heat flow from Driver and Passenger side giving us a problem--temperature of 4 or so Degrees difference on either Auto or individual similar settings--we had an actuator replaced-have told Dealership as to this problem-expect it to be taken care of.

Update from Feb 27, 2010: TCCF repaired after Ford intervened -by a Good Will Customer coveerage of Ford Dealership

Escape XLT V6

2 year old escape, 38,000 miles. After a recent oil change saw, what I thought were oil spots on the driveway. I thought maybe they just didn't tighten something. Turns out this is the transmission cooler problem. Of course, they've labelled the transmission cooler so that it is not part of the powertrain, and out of warranty. Immensely disappointed.

We were looking into a new Ford Focus to replace our aging Explorer, but no way now. I buy new cars to avoid the unexpected expensive repairs, but this is unbelievable. I used to get irritated that my Subaru WRX had small issues like the carpet clamp coming loose, but compared to this, that is looking pretty good.

Escape XLT V6 3.0L

I started to notice oil spots on my driveway and thought it was an oil leak since I just had an oil change. I called the delear to mention this and also mention that my vehicle was running sluggish and jerky and thought there may be a transmission problem. The dealership thought I was whining and complaining because we just had a problem with my 2006 Ford Escape with the Alternator and Transmission problem.

I bought the vehicle in to determine the cause of the leak. The Ford dealership called to advise they detected the problem as a tranmission cooler leak. They advised it was not covered under warranty and it is not covered under the powertain warranty because they don't consider it a transmission problem but rather an airconditioner condenser problem. They told us it was roughly going to cost $685 to fix.

I will be writing an official complaint to Ford as well as to consumer affairs to look into this and see if there is anything they can do to help Ford make this problem a recall.

My family has been devoted Ford owners and we have never had a problem but with two fairly new Fords (2006 & 2008) with transmissions problems I will never buy another Ford.

Ford customer relations only cares if it is in or out of wrranty, they claim the transmission cooling unit has no redesign.. If this is the case, it is not practical to spend $750 only to have it fail again. I am truly disapointed in Ford for not making an effort with this design issue. It will cost them more in the long run. There are alot of good car companies. Ford has lost my respect after owning many. My family and freinds feel their handling of a known defect in this manner would sway them to not try a Ford on their next purchase.

I have a 2008 Ford Escape. It just recently went out of warranty. Several times it has jerked upon take off at a stop sign. We noticed that it was leaking fluid under the front passenger side. My husband determined that it was leaking transmission fluid and that the transmission cooler is leaking. I have reported it to my Ford dealer today and trying to find out how much it is going to cost to fix. After searching the internet this evening I see that many other owners of 2008 Ford Escapes are having the same problem.

I no longer wonder why the car companies are having the time they are staying afloat. I purchased a 2008 Ford Escape two years ago that just rolled over to 38,600 miles. I noticed a puddle of transmission fluid on my driveway so I took it in to the dealer. Ford knows they have defective parts that are causing this problem but told me it is not covered under the new vehicle warranty after 36,000 miles. I purchased an extended warranty also when I bought this vehicle but it is not covered under it either. I called Ford customer service to ask for a "good will claim" since my mileage is very close and THIS IS THEIR FAULT FOR MAKING A FAULTY VEHICLE but there is nothing they can do. My husband and I currently own three Fords and my husband has always been a "Ford" man until today. You are only as good as the word you stand behind and you do not do customers this way. It is hard enough to make car payments and insurance without being screwed over by the dealer!

I took my Ford Escape in less than 2 months ago and had a part replace and paid extra to have them check brakes and blets they said they found nothing. Then I noticed fluid leaking from the front of my car and took it in to have it checked. Turns out that its a defective part. The condenser assembly is leaking transmission fluid (common problem with 2008 escape). I was told that it would be 800+ dollars to fix it. My car is out of warranty and I not only got stuck with the bill I also have the car payment to make.... you know, the new car that you buy so you don't have to pay to fix the old one!!!!! I called Ford customer relations to complain 1-800-392-3673... everyone with this problem should give them a call maybe they will recall the part and refund those of use that have had to pay to get it fixed.

Alright, so my fiance and I were frustrated about the fact that this was not covered under the powertrain warranty which SAYS transmission. Well pardon the hell out of me I figured when the agreement said TRANSMISSION it meant it would cover the transmission including the coolant that makes it run.

Anyway, my fiance and I are so pissed that we are taking ford to court and are trying to decide if its worth filing a class action lawsuit about it. They need to file a recall on the defective part, because obviously this is not a random occurence. As viewed by this and other blogs and boards.

I am in MA and really want FORD to have to deal with this, its not fair that the consumer is stuck with dealing within an issue that is a manufacturer defect.

Escape LX V6

  • Automatic transmission

We had the car in to our local dealer in Huntley, Illinois for an oil change and told the dealer that we suspected an oil leak because there were spots all over our drive (brick) and it was unsightly. He changed the oil and told us that we had a trannsmission cooler leak which he said, was a common problem on the Escape. He claimed to fix it. A week later we noticed it still spotting the driveway. We brought the car back and were told that "it was just an accumulation of fluid from the first occourance and nothing to be concerned about"....today I noticed a 5 X 8" spot on the garage floor and it's red (tranny fluid). Since I know it is a reoccourance of the same problem, I called Ford zone office in Florida and pitched a bitch. They claimed it would take 2 days to get back to me since tomorrow is Thanksgiving...we'll see. I made sure to inform the Ford person on the line that if I ever have transmission problems as a result of this problem, I was going to get in touch with the State of Illinois,

Update from Nov 30, 2009: Well....it's tough to be color blind! I brought the car back to the dealer this AM and complained about the transmission leaking...oops! It was oil and not tranny fluid (brown not pink) anyway, the dealer promptly put it up on the lift and showed me that the mechanic installed a new Motorcraft oil filter and it was the cause of the leak...the tranny is fine.He apologized profusely and changed the oil & filter....gave her little baby a wash job and all is well. Mama is thrilled to get her new Escape back unscathed and all is well. Ford apparently responded quickly to get the dealer's attention.
