I know it is a problem needing a resolution so it is more than just an annoyance as it triggers the "check engine light" to come on . EVERY time I get gas now, the message pops up to check the fuel inlet valve. The first time this appeared, I jumped out of the car thinking I forgot to put on my gas cap. I opened the compartment door and I thought for sure that my son must have set it down somewhere when he pumped my gas for me. So I was a little surprised when I found out there is NO gas gap. That was over a year ago and I have to say, WHAT A BIG F**'g design mistake this idea was/IS. Such a poor unthought out design! Why would anyone think that a circle of rubber is a viable option to create a strong and lasting seal. A seal that is supposed to put a cap to a necessary CLOSED system. And then to be told that you have to purchase the door with the gasket. You cannot just replace the gasket seal. Which wcould be an easy fix.

Gaskets, seals, washers such as in our faucets are replaced inexpensively everyday.

Car would not pass smog until item was fixed, Ford charged me approx $700, said there was another vape leak in system besides the evap cap...said the rubber seal around the capless gas valve leaks. Had fixed in July 2017, now same error "Fuel Filler Inlet" appears on dash, 1 year later. Ford says they will charge me $180 for diagnostic, "because it could be something else"

After I complained, Ford dealer said if diagnostic shows it is the same thing, the evap valve, they will replace no charge and not charge for the diagnostic. At this point, getting diagnostic done elsewhere, not sure that I trust the Ford guys.I also had problem with lift gate switched, they fixed it, cost $400, 4 mos later same issue...Although symptoms and sounds were same, just a click noise...but Ford said it was not the switch but the motor and charged me another $400. Had issue with water in the driver's side floor every time it rained, left corner, they said pine needles were stuck in the drain column that runs from roof alongside front of the driver's side door. Cleared it for $180.

I shouldn't have to funnel my vehicle every single time I get gas. Even with doing that, I still get the "check fuel fill inlet" message on my dash. I get the WD-40 and a can of air and funnel the crap out of my Escape. Well after getting the "check fuel fill inlet" message at least three times, the check engine light comes on. I've ran the code and got a large leak message. I've cleared the code and gone on with my life. I've done this more than once. I shouldn't have this issue. If my vehicle didn't pass an emissions test because of this fault, I would raise hell online to and about Ford. The dealership has written it off as insignificant: turning me away, just funnel the car, use some spray, don't worry about it. Well this is a nuisance and it needs to be repaired. The dealership should know the issue by now and fix this. Don't make me regret getting a Ford, which I already had prior hesitation about doing.
