The power surge ruined three cd players that I had connected using a transformer/inverter adaptor plugged into the 12VDC port at the front of the console. Took me three times to realize the problem was not with the adaptor and two cd players. I realized that on all three occasions the problem cropped up on engine restart after the auto shut down.

Sensitive electronics cannot stand excess voltage or amperage. With a step up transformer from 12 to 120 volts in the adapter/inverter a one volt surge becomes 10 volts. Also the surge is likely so short that a regular surge suppressor will likely not be fast enough. Simple testing would have found this problem and damping electronics should have been added.

I am headed to the dealer to start the process but I am certain that the vehicle warranty will not cover the cost of my ruined cd players.
