After fueling up the Escort I would start it and do 10feet and it would stall and not restart.

I checked the fuel line and there was fuel present. After an hour of trying, I realized that I could not hear the fuel pump turn on when I turned the power on. I abandoned the car for over an hour and when later returning the fuel pump could be heard and the car did start. This happened to me again twice this summer, I would leave it for a while (hour) then listen for the fuel pump if it turned on it does it starts.

I had the same problem with my 1988Aerostar in the summer months. I would leave it at the shopping center for a few hours and when I returned it would always start. Seems that they need a cooling off period. I did check the fuel cut off switch thinking maybe it was the problem but it was not engaged on the Escort. Have yet to have it verified by a mechanic and maybe change the fuel pump. Has a mind of its own. Becomes a real problem especially if your stuck in the middle of nowhere. Pain in the butt.

So like I said, I replaced the oil, fuel and transmission filters, the lower radiator hose and the radiator itself. The guy who did the work was supposed to get rid of the hesitation from the engine starting and doing those things didn't help. He diagnosed it as a fuel pump issue after he did the filters and such. I also need a new ac compressor which adds to the frustration of the cars power being bogged down while using the ac, which fluctuates on when it chooses to work also. Where do i start?
