Brake lines rusted badly, noticed them rusting several years ago. Obviously, junk metal. IN DRIVEWAY PRESSED BRAKE PEDAL TO PUT IN GEAR, AND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, WHAT IF I WAS ON THE ROAD. So much for dual braking systems and element of safety. Steering box rusted badly, other lines rusted badly. Does no good if drivetrain and body hold well, if it can't stop. $976 at Ford Dealership just for both master cyl to ABS lines and driver side line replaced which burst on mechanic on test drive. Another pathetic 3 lines to go. I have old hobby cars from MI, 50 YEARS OLD WITH BETTER BRAKE LINES.

We left vacation home in OBX @ 330am and was on 476 outside of Philly around 1100am in heavy traffic when cars stopped under overpass and I hit brakes. The brakes failed catastrophically.I had whole fam, 2 kids, wife, dog, had a choice hit all the kias and taurus's in front of me or ditch the car, I chose the latter.

We eneded heading through construction access OVER the overpass hitting everything on the way that I could. I almost went through a house. Everyone shook up and okay, just wife and myself had bleeding airbag burns.

Allstate investigated (truck totalled) and found catastrophic failure of ABS system. Brake pedal had gone right to floor and stuck w/not even one ounce of slow down anticipation. Had thule on top and 4 bikes on back, was quite loaded up weight wise. Also, pads, rotors all new and had no prior warning of this issue.

As with the other complaints, when approaching an intersection and applying brakes, they don't work. I've heard a pulsation noise most of the time when this happens. It takes a few extra feet to stop. It's like being on ice, but in August! My front brakes were replaced and an ABS sensor, but it has still happened. I've also experienced very mushy braking. ABS light still comes on intermittently. It will be going to a dealership for diagnosis, but I'm not very optimistic after reading these other complaints.

Update from Nov 3, 2010: Diagnosis was "water in ABS module plug". Once the plug was dried out, the brakes worked fine--still do 2 yrs later.

As with other complaint, I will be slowing pulling up to a stoplight, or stopping in my driveway and the brakes simply don't work. The ABS brakes come on instead, just like going into a slippery intersection, but this is in 20oC weather! The problem is intermittent. I have the vehicle at the dealer today and they are thus far perplexed. Yesterday, I actually hit a building because this happened again. When the ABS come on, the vehicle travels about 2-3 feet further than expected as stopping. Only happens when going slowly. Thank goodness no one on the sidewalk at the time or I would have hit them.

I have experienced this three times now where i have come to a red light and applied my brakes, and it feel like the anti lock brakes are kicking in like when you're stopping on ice. I continued to press on the pedal and just kept moving. The dealership says they can't find anything wrong. I am afraid to drive it any more next time I may not be so lucky. I may end up in front of a semi in the middle of the high way. It has only done it three times in the last month and a half but i would like to know when i put my brakes on that i am going to stop.
