About a month after I purchased my Explorer I began to hear a ticking noise coming from the engine. This mainly occurred when the car was cold. I took into the dealership. The dealership said they had no codes coming up showing that anything was wrong. They advised me they would have to contact Ford engineering to find out what to do. They determined that the wrong size lifters were installed on two of the cylinders. They were told to fix the problem. This involved totally dismantling my eninge. Two weeks later, they put my car back together and guess what.....the noise is still there......but LOUDER. Then the engineer comes out and states that it is a known problem and has been diagnosised as a "DO NOT REPAIR". They reported this as a characteristic of the vehicle. WTH.....What is the difference between a characterist and a defect. I have looked at many other explorers that DO NOT make this noise.
