Explorer

  • Automatic transmission
  • 49,000 miles

We purchased our 2012 Ford Explorer in December 2011 after researching and test driving several other SUV's and decided on the Explorer.

We have had it in at least eight (8) times times for air bag light on. We had the Explorer in on August 1, 2018 again for air bag light on , the said it was a seat belt tensioner and fixed it (that same item was fixed a few months back).

I asked the service manager if light is on does the AIR BAG SYSTEM work, HE SAID NO. After several attempts by our dealer to fix, the light would still come on, so we bought it back again and again. We started to take pictures of air bag light on with miles and when we bought it to the dealer to drop off we took pictures of drop off envelope with filled out information because when we picked up Explorer it was not documented on pick up ticket. WHAT A COVER UP.

Also, on our pick up ticket they put in a bogus phone number and e-mail address. I asked why and our team leader said it was to protect us , so someone else did not get our information. I believe it was to keep us from giving the dealer a bad review. Our extended warranty runs out in December and after that we will be on our own. So what do we do: Buy another extended warranty, trade it in and buy another brand vehicle (more money) Some other poor person will get an Explorer with FAULTY AIR BAG SYSTEM. My only suggestion is when air bag light comes on pull over and have your Explorer towed to the closest Ford dealer and see if Ford will pay for tow, or maybe you have AAA or another tow service.

Ford does not want to own up to this manufacture problem.

Well, Last time it was a connector in the drivers side kick panel as it has been a couple of times before. This time it was 3 corroded connectors under the console 210, 211, and 310a. I really hate this vehicle because it is fixing to cost me a lot of money. The light is on again and I have to get it inspected in Oct. Today is Sept. 5, 2016

Repairs only last a couple of months, then it goes intermittent then stays solid on, airbag light. Ha happened from the first year since I purchased the vehicle in oct. of 2011. Have had no other connector problems except for the air bag connectors and a couple of recalls which were also a pain in the ass.

Update from Apr 4, 2017: last time in, turned out to be a seat belt retract sensor problem. For refused to repair it.

Was avid ford enthusiat, but now going to Chevrolet, damn.

Seems the connector or the Seatbelt anchor will need to be replaced since its intermittent when the air bag system runs the system check.. this issue does not always show up, and can go for days without an issue.

Explorer LX 3.2lV6

Warranty just ran out. My 2012 Ford Explorer airbag light comes on and goes off for app. 1 minute. Comes right back on and stays on. My Ford dealer says it is a major deal to find out what is making it stay on, may take up to 8 hours or more to fix the problem. Don't sound right to me. Can somebody help with this problem?

Explorer XLT 3.5L

My airbag light stays on most of the time now. Sometimes it will go off when I shut off the vehicle. It is a 2012 Explorer that is now out of factory warranty due to mileage. I live in a high humidity state (Florida) and have other issues with sensors failing prematurely due to high humidity. I'm assuming that is what is causing this issue however I am not sure.

The dealer wants me to pay for diagnosis and repair. I feel this is a problem with the manufacturer of vehicles that will be driven in high humidity states. Oil changes only last 5000 miles in Florida when they last 7500 in other states. There are things to consider for new vehicles based on where the vehicle will be driven. I don't believe that is being given consideration. God forbid I get in a wreck and my airbag does not deploy.
