same problem as logged by another user...

First off, I love my truck! (2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac 4 Wheel Drive) I am the original owner and the truck is well maintained.this month it started having a crazy problem... first he transmission starts getting stuck in either 2nd or 3rd gear, then the OD light starts flashing and pressing the OD button has no effect.

The first time it happened shutting the truck off fixed it. 2nd time same thing. this time it wont seem to correct itself. UGH!

if anyone has a solutoin for htis please le tme know

Explorer Sport Trac ES 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

apparently the part that goes bad is the same one for the sport trac and the mustangs and it took three attempts at getting it fixed. the shop received a NEW replacement part and it broke as soon as the transmission was reinstalled and test driven. this happened twice, finally the third replacement part worked. fingers crossed.

I bought this vehicle thinking I had a good vehicle. However, after reading all of these complaints about the o/d light, I am not sure. Mine is blinking and my transmission is not operating correctly. I am a little ticked because it is clearly a manufacturer's issue but they are not dealing with it. I guess they don't want any returning customers.

First off, I love my truck! (2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac 4 Wheel Drive) That being said, I purchased my truck approximately 3 years ago. Take my truck for regular maintenance, oil changes, fluids, brakes etc. Except this annoying O/D light starts flashing and all Hell breaks loose, transmission starts NOT to shift 2nd to 3rd gears - RPM's increase - ease off gas wait for trans to shift/catch. Turn off truck - Start again drive a day or two happens again. AGGGHHHH! Please, please someone must know how to fix this problem.

NOT giving up.

CAR IS USED BY MY 22 YR OLD KID FOR SCHOOL. THE TRANS WAS REBUILT TWICE

ONCE FOR 2,200.00 THEN AGAIN UNDER 12,000 MILE GUARANTEE. IT HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT TROUBLE. IT SOMETIMES WILL NOT BACK UP, IF GOING UP HILL.

THE OD LIGHT CONTINUES TO BLINK. NOW IT IS LOSING COOLANT FROM , I THINK THE BLOCK. GOT TO DO SOME MORE CHECKING. PRESSURE TESTED IT COLD AND IT HOLDS AT AT 16 PSI. WHEN THE MOTOR GETS HOT IT IS LOSING COOLANT SOMEWHERE.

Explorer Sport Trac XLT 4.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 78,000 miles

my o/d light starts blinking just after a few miles. this happened about a year ago then stopped after 2 months and the last Friday about 6 or 7 months later its started again. took it to transmission mechanic he put it on a computer and no codes would show up. call ford they said they have never heard of this problem. B.S. when i go on here to the computer and see over 1000 complaints for the same problem there's a problem. ford needs to get off there tail step up to the plate and say they realize there's a problem and we need to fix it, cause right now is not the time to mess with the economy cause they will not buy any more from them. please ford step up and recall this problem!

Explorer Sport Trac V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 112,000 miles

Bought truck and was so excited to get a good deal....found out 3 bad tires, no problem, slapped a new set of Michelin's on it, went to ford for recall on Cruise control and paid them to flush transmission fluid....suddenly the cruise control makes spinning sounds when set at 58 and now my O/D light flashes and gears are slipping....called ford and they want me to bring it back....scared they will fXXX it up. I am now learning everywhere NOT to flush the old fluid...it causes more problems.

(reported on)

Explorer Sport Trac

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,653 miles

After having my transmission serviced at the dealer (fluid and filter change), the Overdrive light came on and started blinking. The problem goes away if the ignition is turned off and the engine is restarted. The problem returns intermittently - usually several weeks apart. Prior to the transmission service, I was experiencing an intermittent problem with a severe lag of shifting between 1st and 2nd - only on the upshift. The engine will rev to about 3500 RPM during this shift lag. Neither problem has been remedied by the dealer.
