Engine light and fuel cap light always on. Was told to change the fuel cap, I did. Mechanic couldn't find anything wrong, reset the lights and back on it came. Sucks!

Explorer Sport Trac 4.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission

End of May, 2013, engine running rough. Discovered catalytic converter bad and replaced. June 2013 engine start running rough, clicking sound, and smoking, "check engine light" came on and engine died. Towed to repair shop. Engine full of metal particles. Had engine overhauled and determined that the jackshaft bearings seized and were out of their block placements. Block checked and all within spec. No evidence of overheating or oil pressure problems. Mechanic felt rear bearing went out first as in worse shape than front bearing. Check with three shops and no one can figure out why it occurred. We have maintained all maintenance schedules and oil changes. Over 129,000 miles. No overheating problems, oil pressure or other warnings. Mechanic who overhauled engine did find that the jackshaft tensioner was questionable. Expect for the poor fuel mileage for a V6, we have been very please with our "Squatty", (a wannabe pickup). We do have a 3yr warranty on the rebuild engine. Has anyone else have or had a similar problem with the jackshaft?
