F-150 XLT 4.9L I6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 145,000 miles

I had the tranny rebuilt at 140,000 miles. That was the only issue with the truck so that's was okay since the vehicle is in cherry shape otherwise, the 4.9L is a workhorse running great. Cost me $2,000. Four months later, at 144,000, I find out the transmission cooler tube inside the radiator had a crack. It turned the engine coolant into a strawberry milkshake. The coolant leaked back into the newly-rebuild tranny and dissolved the bands. I had to do another rebuild. The pump and a few items survived. $1,500 for the tranny and $300 for the radiator.
